Hi all,

Just wanted to introduce myself.

I've been lurking this site almost 2 weeks now, just after I started playing heads up.

I first played Hold'em for the first time in my life almost 3 months ago, read HOH Vol.1, and then proceeded to give up more than $150 at the .02/.04 FR NL tables Sad

Tried my hand at SNG's, did not do much better, but now have found a home with Head Up Smile  I'm a tango teacher so I'm good with people, but not so good at math Sad  I go much better with HU than doing ICM calcs for FR SNGs:)

Well, I only have the Tight Aggressive vids left to watch on the Heads Up Poker Strategy page and thanks to that plus Colin Moshman's book my chart is finally going in the right direction:

Except, that when it comes to Turbo/Speed on Party, I get Crushed !  And yes, I know the rake is horrible, I just wanted to clear my free HEM for Pokersoftware from when I first signed up.  Now that I'm done with that I think I'll stay away.

Question:  How do strategies change for Turbo/Speed vs Reg Speed?  What strengths should I concentrate on in order to do better in faster games ??

I'm hoping to save up enough to do the Deluxe Course with Brokerstar in a couple of weeks, but as of now cannot afford it yet ....

Current goals are a 20% ROI at the $3.50 tables, building up my roll to $150 and then moving up to the €3.50 tables.

Brokerstar, thank you Very Much for the Awesome Vids, I didn't see it to sign up for the charge sites, Super Appreciate the free resource !!

First of all. Welcome!

20% Roi is alot, but they say it's achievable!

as for turbo's, well... Just work on your endgame more. The rest is pretty much the same. I think. (I'm still pretty new too..  Wink )

Good luck at the tables!

Welcome man.
Yes 20% ROI is achievable but you need to be an experienced player.
Then again you might be one.
Meaning to  say that if you are fairly new don't get disappointed if you don't hit it.
Best of luck.

Pretty sure that 20% is acheivable at those stakes, but it seems a little high as a goal imo. 10% is more realistic, and to be honest I wouldn't be worrying to much about setting goals like that. Volume goals, and a solid study plan will serve you far better. No harm in having an ROI goal, but don't beat yourself up about it, just concentrate on making good decisions, and getting better.

Turbos v Regs. Much the same to be honest, Less time to adjust in Turbos, and need to be comfortable playing with small effective stacks, as they come round more quickly. Variance will be higher, but so will your volume to even it out.

Good Luck.

wow, guys, thank you for the warm welcome !

appreciate all the replies.

@Pltinum-  Well, I had seen that other people had done this before, so I was thinking, hey, me too !

However, well, now I see a discrepency between the ROI I have on Pokertracker, right now at 15% after a 4 loss night last night Sad and the ROI on Sharkscope, currently at 2%, do you happen to know how these 2 are computed so differently ???

@savrababa- Nope, not exprienced at all, about a 3 week Heads Up baby, just speaking out of wide eyed enthusiasm Smile

@Blazing_Saddler-  You're completely right about prioritizing Volume and a Solid Study plan + making good decisions, I just figured that a 20% ROI would be a good expression of those things.

In terms of Study Plan, I currently try to watch 1 vid per day, and also review tough decisions from the previous day's matches prior to starting.  Do you have a recommendatin or link to a Study Plan ???

Again, thank you all for the warm welcome.

Best.

When setting goals, you want to set them so they aren't to easy, but not so diffiuclt you can't reach them, and they come frustrating. 20% is pretty high. Just don't get to disappointed if you fail on that particular goal.

When it comes to studying, the most important thing is, you get the most out of your time. Don't think, okay I watched 2 videos today, and whizzed through a few Hand History's. If you get nothing out of it, it's a waste of time.  Doesn't matter how short the time is , make sure you get the most out of it.

Few links that may help you.

http://tagpoker.myfastforum.org/about2311.html By me  Very Happy

http://tagpoker.myfastforum.org/about3074.html Read BrokerStars post in this thread.

Hope that is of some help.

@Blazing Saddler- Thank you for the links!  The tips from Brokerstar on getting the most out of vids seem very good, I'll try it with my next video session.

As to your post, Really Good.  The stair drawing that you reposted there is very handy, think I will keep referring to it, maybe make a new one with accurate numbers for current Buyin levls on Pokerstars.

The 'Have A Plan' section expands on your thoughts here, and that helps as well.  Also thanks for the list of 'Tools of the Trade,' will look into the links for posting hands and sweat sessions, that is now on my To Do list for the next 2 weeks.

In other news, went on my biggest losing streak to date after I stated my ROI goals Embarassed   Found out a couple of things, playing 4 mans is not such a good idea when on a downward spiral, and that I should Not play having an ROI in mind....  Looking back, I think my head was focused on "I have to win," instead of "I have to understand my opponent."

Better for me is to play only when I have the time, patience, and desire to understand my opponent, if I think about it like this: "People want to be understood, if you understand them, they give you $$." Then I can have a better mindset (for myself) for playing poker than just, ~ "I opened my mouth in public and now I have to come thru."

That's another thing I like about Poker, gives me a profitable way to self-improvement Smile

If I remember right, on Party you start with only 50bb, and at the microstakes rake is 20% or something criminal like that.
As such, I think its pretty hard to generate a 20% roi... even if all your opponents openshove 100%.
But good luck.

@ butitwassooted- You're completely right, I finished clearing bonus on there and don't play there anymore.

@ savrababa- I tried to send a PM, but haven't posted enough to have permission yet ....

Wanted to ask, would you be interested in doing sweat sessions sometime??  I've been running super bad, many spots where I just don't have a plan, and would like to do a session to see how other folks think....  Never done it before, but I read here it's a good idea Smile

Send me a PM if interested.
