Welshdentist's Bankroll Challenge

After a few months of dabbling, I have had an epiphany of sorts

I have reset Sharkscope, blanked from my memory that FT is fixed  and have started from scratch.

For a mental positive from my point I have reset my FT Sharkscope and as of today I will play every game as if it was worth £1,000,000

I have accumulated a load of knowledge from Broker and you guys, and know it is time to start playing properly.

Plus BMM's link to that luck website showed how unlucky I had been  Laughing

I hope to post weekly and contribute much more to the forum.

Cheers guys

Day 1 of bankroll

The loss in the middle was funny, total station, hit every flush/boat on turn and river. Basically value bet myself out of it, they ran so hot.

I'd 5x AA, they'd call and hit flush etc etc etc

Couple of aggro loons put to bed, another got me at the end. Everytime i'd make a stand with AQ they'd have AK blah blah

Anyhow, let's get it going

Cool

Aim is to hit $100 at $1 and 2 before moving up.
welshdentist

Tough week, hit a downswing, played poorly then rewatched the videos when I hit the low. Major mix up in strategy but I still consider myself a poker novice.

At least 4 matches this week I lost at high blinds when 60% favourite so I just need to keep making the better +ev decisions. Stuck to $1 exclusively as planned.

Had a nice winning streak in the middle

Played much better after the dip and onward we go

Last match of the week was against a winning player who blinded himself to death.

Slow played BIG pairs a few times, raised in poistion once. Punished my limps about 3 times in 40 hands.

Last hand I limped on the button and hit two pair, 3 and 5!!!

Raised half pot, he reraised. I put him on a high pocket pair given the history and I will be honest, I need to go to bed!!!!!

I was so sure of my read, I shoved he called.

He showed QQ and my two pair held up. Just shows what happen when you limp a premium hand. Trap and win big, or lose and feel like an idiot.

I am getting there slowly, and to be fair with a rake of 10% I am not doing too bad considering how much of a fish I used to be.

Avoiding for more marginal spots, playing much much better in limped pots and being patient with aggro monkeys.

I also learnt to not play when the wife is in the room, she talks to me Laughing
which is not good for spotting tells or keeeping with gameflow

Wife + Poker = Bye bye bankroll!
welshdentist

Never a truer word spoken

Crucial hand in match........

Wife:"Did you hear what i just said?"
Me:  "Errrrrr"

And onwards we go. I have no delusions of thousands of hands a month.

I am likely to play 250-300 games a month so will take it steady and am studying more than playing today

MrJayOMG

Agree the distractions of family life can have a huge impact on your results. I get up at around 5am when everyone is in bed to play & I think Blazing goes to a mates house!

If you want me to look at a HH to see if I can see anything obvious, feel free to catch me on Skype. I tend to be a bit patchy online but if you can get hold of me I'll see if I can help.

True that!

I usually start playing when my wife goes to sleep at around 8-11pm. Sometimes when it takes to 11pm. I might even be too tired to play like yesterday. Tho my wife is pregnant atm and I do want to spend time with her after work  Laughing

Great attitude!
welshdentist

Finding it funny watching you guys posting thousands in profit etc and here is me grinding the $1s lol

I am pleased with my attitude this week. Playing carefully and watch for spots to get value. Happily seen some fish on my travels....

Looking to keep going with steady progress....

My pub Monday night earning are +£100 for the last two weeks so that has helped boost the confidence

Baby steps, more study than play this week.

Shocked
welshdentist

Moving along slowly, few spew monkeys, few total tight stations picked off....

I seem to "get it" this week

Not bad ROI for $1games for the week from the near $12 low

Used to happen to me all the time. Would wait for my mrs to go to bed to play. Some nights by the time she had gone, I was to tired to play. Or I played anyway, and struggled.

We had a baby in August last year, it's a testing time, sometimes poker has to go on the back burner. It doesn't get that much easier when the little on arrives.

I don't have a day job right now, so I get to see my family whenever I want. I have found going to a friends to play to be really good. I am going there to get poker played, and nothing else. Far more likely to get the job done, rather than being distracted at home, with things that need doing. My mate has been off work the last few weeks, and I have got hardly anything done pokerwise really.

Good luck with the new arrival by the way.

Looks like your graph is moving in the right direction man keep up the good work!
welshdentist

Can't update graph, sharkscope not picking me up last few days. Had two bad days...although not really varience wise I suppose. Only 2 bad days this month one was 2 buyins down and the other 1 buyin down.

One day played too much and ended up 7 wins 9 losses and another day 1 win and two losses which at $1.10 level puts you behind somewhat but I am sticking with $1 until I am happy and at $75. Study and reaching $75 will put me where I want to be....

Edit, did graph with PT3  Shocked

MrJayOMG

Stick at it sir, you'll get there no probs. I've been at the $1s & it sucks sometimes when you see people killing it at the higher stakes, but ignore that & concentrate on your own game & it'll happen. No probs.

Brutal day against LAG's

When I made a stand, they rivered me blah blah moan moan.

I will go back through hand histories but it just felt like one of those days when it was a combination of card dead, LAG's running well and poor judgement.

I may be passively tilting but I feel I have been doing well at bet sizing, maybe a bit too passive and getting steamrollered but overbets.....

Confidence shook by getting hit everytime I made a stand....

Also had 5 really bad All ins at the high blinds where I was ahead preflop, but missed each time, had a few KJ vs K8 and the villain hit the 8 etc etc

For the month I am still two games up but can see that against L/P, T/P and LAG I do o.k but the random LAGs I struggle with. I can see why many people use it as an effective style.....

Back to the study.....

Win rate since my restart on 20th Feb 2011 is 54.94% which is the best i've had.

I've looked at a few HH and i've been running so cold. Gonna take the rest of the day and night off poker and back to studying tomorrow.

It's certainly a hard slog playing a lot of LAG and calling stations. Neither wanna put a hand down and fold equity is close to zero. Where have all the fish gone from earlier in the week????

I also had one guy offer to f*&k my dead mother in her fat a**.

That's gone off to Full TIlts abuse dept but I doubt anything will come of it.

Lesson with Broker this morning, plugged some major leaks...

Preflop bet sizing vs player types

Overplaying low PP's <99

Value betting turn OOP when likely ahead instead of checking and waiting for river and calling villains bets.

Stronger raising OOP with premium hands, not calling too light OOP

Stabbing more against tight players, but rasing more for value gainst loose players.

Looking for timing tells and patterns more than player type.

Reset my mindset for every game, clean slate, new player.

Play the $2 not the $1 due to the 10% rake on FTP

So far today 3-0 Happy Days

Gonna leave it, play agin after study and reviewing the lesson

Run like god everyone....I'm hoping this thread will help all, especially the newbies like me who knew a bit about poker, but have been playing online less than 6 months. before this i played one a week down the pub and that was my only experience before. And even that was only for the last year and a half, only card game i've ever played....

welshdentist

61% win rate since lesson with Broker, playing mainly $2 on FT now

It's time to gogogogogo

Good stuff, keep it up!
welshdentist

Rules to follow for my challenge

Stop if two matches lost in a row to review play

Do not rematch calling station running red hot Wink it's egotistical and foolish.

Stop when trips outkickered two hands in a row by a single card J7 by Q7 and T6 by J6

Do not play when the wife is around, why will I not learn this is bad, no notes made, no concentration, complacency

Lessons learnt, be humble, play solid

4 buy ins down today, poor play not variance is the cause. Overplaying marginal hands and shoving to get people to fold draws against loose players. Disappointed after my spike but only 4 buy ins down
Nishido

Is it not +ev to get opponents to call a shove with most draws? Unless you meant you had no hand??
welshdentist

I put them on a draw, but they had trips and outkickered me...
Thought they would call as loose...

That's just variance, but the play before and after was poor
bridgegunner

keep pushing buddy. once u find the perfect time to play where u can be 100% focused u will get there.  u have the right attitude and work ethic. what i used to do while the wife was awake was do some hh or maybe even rewatch a few videos that i have seen before just to keep some of these ideas fresh in my mind. i alos like to blog and go over alot of my notes about playing styles my leaks and things that i will do better as well as review my playing goals. playing when she is around is -ev just learn to use that time more wisly so when it is time to play u are 100% prepared and ready to crush
welshdentist

Great advice. Got some quiet time and had a brutally hard match against a TAG

Mananged to prevail to finish the day 6 wins and 9 losses.

Not my A game but was very rewarding to beat the TAG, winning reg...
