Sandy's 6-max Cash Build

What's up, my name is Alex but people end up calling me Sandy online cuz of my screen name. Anyway... I want to work my way up through the stakes and eventually be able to grind as a part-time job, and possibly more in the far future but that can wait til later. I've got a week and a half left at my summer job, a week and a half trip back home to Ontario (I'm in BC, Canada right now), then school starts September 7th. I'm taking a 2-year diploma called CSOM (Computer Systems Operation and Management) and I have 2.5 semesters left (this semester will only be 3 courses).

So I want to build up my roll and my skills - I've been away from poker a long time Sad - and I'm going to work my way up the 6-max cash ladder. I have $196 still sitting on Carbon Poker from when I signed up for the cash school here, but just didn't start playing for whatever reason.

I'm going to start at NL10 tomorrow, play at that level through August, then take advantage of the 75% August reload bonus on Carbon by depositing $300 on Aug 31 and move up to NL25.

I'm going to start with some reachable goals to motivate me.

Week 1
[x] Buy HEM
[x] Start my journey with a 1-hour 4-table session on Monday
[] Play 2k hands

I'm only going to write weekly goals so that I don't get overwhelmed and can focus on each step as I go.

Add me on skype mate im the new cash school coach would be good to chat and get to know you - gl Smile

Cool, added ya, siminitt.  Smile

First session went ok, I'm VERY rusty... made a dumb call right near the end...

Overall I'm just glad I stuck to my goal and got over the first little hurdle.
The Little Fish

Good luck mate, I'm not a cash player but i've played atlittle and would like to improve my cash games skills.

Just wondering how other players would have played this hand?? I personally would have called pre flop (but i think at this level they're always gonna show QQ+ AQ+ when they 4 bet PF). Once hit that flop i'd have bet flop/turn then evaluate the river.. Thoughts?
n1ghtah

id get it all in preflop those donkeys can 4bet with 73o.  and just take the flip if your against a pocket pair. your good against AJ - AQ flipping with pocket pairs (obviously not with AA) but still. maybe im just a NL donkey Smile
siminitt

Just shove preflop - think it is a bad play to flat with a 4bet here we have blockers to aces and kings which reducde the odds that we are dominated and at worst were flipping at best hes a tard and has done it with AJ etc
n1ghtah

oh weee siminitt just wrote the exact same thing as i did.. maybe im not an nl donkey anyway Very Happy
sandman369

See, I knew that before when I used to play. This is gonna be rough re-learning poker Sad

Haven't played more than that first session, still working full time and got other things to do... figuring I will play an hour tonight or tomorrow then the rest on Sunday.
Reseal

Good luck getting back into it man. I've added you on Skype!

Ok well I haven't played any more than that first day, still working full time (only for 2 more days though!) and been pretty busy/exhausted. Flying out on Friday morning. I don't think I will set any firm goals until I'm back and school starts, when I'll have lots of free time. Probably just gonna deposit 200 on Aug 31 for the 75% reload bonus and continue on with the NL10.

On a more personal note, I should also see a counselor when I get back to school, cuz I'm lacking a social life out here across the country from my friends, and it's crushing my soul more than poker ever could. Just thought I would blurt that out so that I feel compelled to do it rather than dwelling on it like I have for way too long. One needs to get out of his own head before he can see into others'.

edit: I'm going to watch a whole bunch (possibly all) of the cash videos over the next while to get my head back into a poker mentality. Goddam full-time job, I swear it made me more, like... stupider n stuff
sandman369

Deposited the $200 for 75% reload bonus today and played a bit more. Still feeling really fishy, not able to put reason behind my play as I'm doing it, just kind of doing basics and getting myself confused. Guess it will just take some time and more hands, and some cash school sessions. Looking forward to it!

Latest graph update. Still a tiny sample but it reflects how I feel about my play so far.

Going to drop down to 2-tabling for now so I can work on taking more time to think about plays and play better poker. Once I feel confident that I can put reason behind my actions, I'll bump back up to 4 tables.

Played another 100ish hands in a quick sesh last night shortly after the previous post; back to break-even.

Just finished up an hour-ish session, and Reseal kindly sweated a bit of it. I think with the combination of 2-tabling, having just watched a leakfinder vid that emphasized thinking about "why are you betting/raising? for value or bluffing?", and some good hands holding up, it was an awesome hour of poker for me. If only I could get a $22/hr rate always  Razz

edit:: gonna 3-table actually, 2-table causes boredom which breeds stupid plays

update: another hour session, another nice upswing

gonna go thru the hands I marked in HEM and post em up
sandman369

Small goal for tomorrow:
[] Get to "Earth" VIP tier

Need 100 more points before August ends. I think I average 25-30 points/hour, should be able to get there.

edit: Probably won't be able to reach Earth status. Places to go, ppl to see. Oh well
sandman369

*sigh* had a couple disastrous sessions today. Nothing seemed to work and suckouts galore. Was 6-tabling to try to rack up points for Earth status and I'm pretty sure it affected my play. 50 pts left to get there, which is like 2 hours of 4-tabling.

Down $24 for the day Confused

Can't wait to get into some cash school classes

update: fuuuuk what a waste of a day. 6-tabled to try to get enough points, lost $34 for the day, plus I'm 40 points away and I have to leave for the night. FML

No poker tomorrow, busy day, but I might watch a video in the few hours I have free.

And I'm actually $20 above EV... Need to go back to 2-tabling  Embarassed
sandman369

Played a lil bit just now, recorded a half-hour video that hopefully someone will take a look at and give me some pointers Smile

Still hovering around break-even

Played an almost hour session just now and recorded it for future review and to post in the forum, hopefully someone will be kind enuf to review it Smile
Ran into a BAAAAD fish who was on a heater:

Hopefully I'll run into him again when he's not running amazing and rake in the $$$  Twisted Evil

Anyway, I'm still slightly in the red, but I'm glad that my EV is in the black (+$9.90 EV.)

Flying back to BC in a few hours, golfing tomorrow at an awesome course with my grandparents who are visiting out there, then school starts on Wednesday. Gonna try to get into a grinding groove by the end of the week and get my hands/week up to a respectable level!
sandman369

Had a bad session last night 4-tabling again... I don't know if I just suck, or what's going on, but it seems like I just can't get things going my way. Going to decrease to 3 tables to see if that helps.

edit:: make that 2 tables... dunno why but I seem to play my best at just 2... guess that means I'm slow in da head Mad
sandman369

Had a good session yesterday, I am going to stick to 2 tables until I reach 7.5k hands, then bump up to 3 tables. Motivation has been lacking for me, it's taken almost 3 weeks to play just under 4k hands Mad

$EV is +33.47 which makes me feel a bit better about it  Rolling Eyes

Another good session with a nice juicy fish to pay me off. 2-tabling is definitely better for my winrate than 4-tabling, for now.

I'm also playing at my school instead of at home in my room so I have more motivation. Just like a gym vs. exercising at home, being around others just makes me get shit done more easily.

It is good that you can recognise this, as playing more tables can sometimes lead to autopiloting, and missing spots that you wouldnt if concentrating on a smaller amount of tables.

As your skills increase, you will then find the move to 3, 4, 16 tables will be an easier transition than trying to do it now.

Good luck with it all cobber.
sandman369

Withdrew my money from Carbon last night (still pending) to hopefully get it out before the DoJ turns their focus on the Merge network. That is if it's not too late already. I've read a lot of bad things about cashing out from Carbon, we will see.

Goddam greedy American institutions ruined everything  Mad
bridgegunner

my cash out took a month from carbon but on rpm it was a week so heres hoping it will be a week
sandman369

Withdrawal STILL pending, so yeah, not looking good. fuck.

Still waiting a week later...
sandman369

So, almost a month later and it's still pending withdrawl. Bye bye money Sad
Hoping I can start with $50 at NL2 and get in on Ant's coaching deal.
sandman369

Well, while I wait for my Carbon money (on the 2nd try now, account should be verified this time), I just put $25 on Bet Online and gonna start TAGing it up at 2NL Razz So far I'm trying too hard, I just need to sit back and wait for good stuff to hit.
Brokerstar

Mate you'll print money there. Just wait, get hands and get paid!!   Rolling Eyes
sandman369

Hehe yeah I learned that quick. Dropped about $4 first while overthinking, then just tightened up and got it back plus a bit. About an hour of play and I'm up to 26.63! Not much but it is +81bb in an hour haha.

BTW does HEM work on BO?

Initial deposit: $25
Current BR: $26.63

Tomorrow's goals:
[x] Get back into the gym (been slacking)
[] Play poker for total of 4 hours
Brokerstar

No as far as I know PT3 or HEM do not work on the site.
sandman369

Today's Goals were:
[x] Get back to the gym
[] Play a total of 4 hours of poker - only played 1.5 hours

Tomorrow's Goals:
[] Gym again
[] Play at least 2 hours of poker

Today's winnings: +$3.19
Current BR: $29.82
sandman369

Woop woop got my money from Carbon Poker finally after a month and a half.

I find I've lost motivation to... well, to do anything, really. I went in on Monday and had a break even couple of hours of poker, but other than that I haven't done anything. I will try again tomorrow...
celavey

After a month and a half? Do you think that is a bit long? What type of payment method did you use?
