Sandman NL Cash build

Thought I would start a fresh BRB thread seeing as my other was just 6max. This one is purely for Bet Online, and I am doing FR and 6m.

I have deposited a total of $55 (25 at first then 30 more when my Carbon money came in). Some bad beats and a bad play today brought it down to $48.49.

I am going to try to make a better effort to put in volume starting Monday - try to make it like a job. I live up on a mountain - 40 minute drive from town Mad - and so there is basically no internet (we have a 500MB/month plan that goes thru the phone line and the speed is like dial-up). So I use the university's network. 2MB/s down and unlimited bandwidth weeee.

So I will drive in to town in the morning, hit the gym, then to the uni to grind.

At my current BR amount I will play 2 tables of NL2 and 2 tables of NL6 (mix of FR and 6m, whatever is available). I will try to restrain myself and only play straight-forward TAG, and only bluff if I have a good read. I have yet to fully break the habit of taking things personally if I miss with a strong hand and get my cbet called. BAD SANDY. BAD. Anyway, I will exchange one NL2 table for an NL6 for every $6 my BR grows, so at $56 it will be 1 table of NL2 and 3 of NL6, and at $62 I will be 4-tabling NL6. After that I will exchange in 1 table of NL10 when I reach $90, and keep exchanging 1 for every $10 I gain from there.

This will be updated weekly. Someone made a good point that daily updates make you focus on the results too much.

Week of Nov. 14:
[] Stick to schedule all week: Get up by 7 AM, leave by 8 AM, hit gym, play poker til 4 PM.
[] Stick to BR plan

I have always given up on goals too soon in the past, but this time I want to make it stick. Any occasional chatting and poker talk on Skype would be greatly appreciated to keep my head in a poker mindset. I don't have anyone IRL to talk poker with  Crying or Very sad
Myself086

I'm adding you on skype.

I play many formats, everything hold'em and omaha hi/lo PL, NL. Feel free to talk with me almost anytime everyday.

Good luck at the tables.
sandman369

Well seeing all the horrible things about Bet Online recently, I'm going to abandon that site and start on my province's new poker site (BC, Canada) at playnow.com

If anyone will keep playing at Bet Online, let me know if you're willing to trade for pokerstars $

I'll start with $50 again at NL4 (they only have NL4, NL10, NL30 for micros, but goes normal from NL50 and up). My goals for now are to just get out of the house and into town to play at least some poker every day. I've been spiraling into a rut again, being lazy and depressed.
BetMagicMoney

GLGL on there and yer im interested so PM and i'll think about it Smile
sandman369

PM sent.

The site is OK, I'd give it a 6.5/10

Pros:
- Soft players abound! At least at NL4. Not quite on the level of Bet Online, but still a lot of bad players.
- Bankroll safety. It's the government's lottery corporation, so they're not going to screw people over any worse than government normally does on a day-to-day basis Razz
- Ease of deposit/withdrawal. Instant CC deposit, and direct deposit to bank account withdrawal. No hassles (haven't tested a withdraw yet, but I have faith)
- Good action buttons like bet buttons (min, 1/2-pot, 3/4-pot, pot, max). I didn't know how to type in a bet til I asked someone on live support haha. The text field is within the bet/raise button

Cons:
- Not many perks seeing as it's a government casino basically. No deposit bonuses or rakeback affiliates. The "PXP" or Poker Experience Points are exchangeable for cash, but they only work out to a rate of 4% rakeback. Pretty crap, but better than nothing I suppose.
- Rake at NL4 is 10% Sad (everything higher is 5% though). dunno if that's all standard or if everything is usually 5%
- I can't see anywhere to save hand histories to your PC, and so no tracking software would work. They do have hand histories available in the menu at the tables though.
- SLOW rate of play. 10-player tables are ~35 hands/hour, 6max are ~70 hands/hour. Almost as bad as live poker.
- When tiling 4 tables, things don't resize on the table, everything just gets TINY. My poor 15" laptop Sad
- Other things I noticed but can't remember right now lol

An hour and a half of play and no major runbad or rungood and I profited $4.72 (118bb). Like I said, soft games. Just wish I could use a HUD but oh well.
forced

where are you in BC?... Im in surrey!
sandman369

Kamloops. I live on a mountain, bitches!  Laughing
Just over 1km elevation, and it takes about half an hour to drive down to river level  Laughing

WRT the poker site, apparently HEM does work with it. I will have to investigate how to save hand histories and get it working!

edit: woot got HEM to read the hand histories.
sandman369

Ok so I'm back playing on BO since it now looks like they do payout eventually. Plus the playnow software is no better than BO, the games are nowhere near as soft, and there are no bonuses or incentives to speak of (4% rakeback is about it, but the rake at micros is too high). So my BR on BO was ~$68, now it is ~$84 after 4-tabling a mix of NL6 and NL10 for a couple hours. Was floating around $90-94 for a while but I finally got KK all-in with an A7 noob and, well, they're not called ace magnets for nothing  Wink

There only ever seems to be one FR and one 6m table at each of those stakes going on, so those are the 4 tables I'll be playing until my BR is around $150, then I will change out one NL6 for a NL25.
forced

so you would suggest not to play at playnow.com?
sandman369

forced wrote:

Not the micros at least - rake is too high with only 4% rakeback and it's not quite soft enough to justify that. I haven't even reached 1000 hands of NL4 on there and I already have 8 PXP which means I've paid $2 in rake (you get 1 PXP from 25c of rake paid). I've only gained about $3 from my initial deposit. It's just not a good site for grinding, they made it mainly for the everyday gambler and lottery player. I would go back and play on it if they introduced a deposit bonus and better points/rakeback incentives, but for now there's basically none.
sandman369

omfg ran like shit shit shit shit shit shit shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit today. BR is back down to $68.52. KK<QQ AIPF was the least of my runbad holy fuk... the little that I hit barely got paid off, it's like the fish learned to swim today or something. all within an hour. No more playing today, too steamed.
sandman369

ohhhh baby the rungood resumes!  Confused

lol well wtf, only +$1.73 today, BR is at $70.14. And that includes being up almost a buy-in (NL6) at 2 different tables. If I could see my $EV stats I'd probably lmao
Brokerstar

Guys are stacking off with middle pair in multi way pots ha ha, long may it last I say  Rolling Eyes
sandman369

True dat, I just hope I actually get to profit from this sooner than later. I also love how it's standard to get 3 OOP callers to my 7xBB raise.
sandman369

Not a bad day, +$13.45 for a BR of $83.59. That is including 2 dumb calls that cost me about $13. I still don't fold my 2nd/3rd best hands enough, nor do I analyze their hand enough, even when I get a horrible feeling about it. Something to work on. Traffic was slow, only a couple NL6 tables so I also loaded up 3 NL2 FR tables. When I get to ~$100 I will start mixing NL6 and NL10

Among lots of other shit, like getting rivered a ton, getting outflopped a ton. Why must this keep happening when I'm trying to build a roll  Evil or Very Mad
This much rake with no rakeback and every other day running like this, how can I ever build a good roll Neutral
sandman369

Despite all that garbage I managed +$6.2 for a BR of $89.79 over a 2 hour session. NL6 traffic is crap so I'm having to play the one or two available NL6 tables and 3 or 4 of NL2. But just about $10 more and I'll start mixing NL2 NL6 and one table of NL10. Dunno if I'll play another sesh tonight, didn't get a good sleep last night. Starting to feel slightly more optimistic about actually building a decent roll in the next couple weeks. Just hope I at least don't run terrible. Running 0EV is all I ask Wink

edit: Played another hour, up almost another buck.

Current BR: $90.72
sandman369

Just had a pretty good 90 minute sesh, ran fairly nice. I played 1 NL10, 1 NL6, and 4 NL2. All FR. I find it much easier to multitable when there's no 6max in there; it makes me go too quick and not think enough if there is. I guess I feel like there is more importance on my image and getting reads on opponents on the 6max table, and it ends up messing me up. So for now I will stick to multitabling FR games.

Current BR: $102.45
sandman369

Two 90 minute sessions tonight, and somehow I managed to eke out a tiny profit, despite playing and running like crap at the only 6max NL10 table I decided to try in the 2nd session. Made a stupid bluff attempt against an unknown that cost me almost $4, then ran like shit the rest of the time on that table.

Here's the stupid bluff:

That was almost every hand I played, the rest was garbage and only 1 or 2 PFR-cbet takedowns. Ughhhhhhhhhhhh. Sorry for posting the HH of it but just had to type it out or it would bug me for a while. I feel better already Smile

P.S. I think I am steadily getting worse at poker. I mean, I'm barely up $50 after a couple weeks on this site, yet Broker made this much by what, day 2? I need help Sad I watch videos and know the basics by heart, but it just seems like I only win if I happen to hit big, which doesn't happen often. Otherwise I get played back at and no bluffs ever work. And at 6max I just seem to do terrible against obviously bad players.

Current BR: $104.62
sandman369

Ran better today but I still managed to waste almost $5 on another stupid play against an unknown from my SB to his BB. I allowed my brain to level me once again. Bad brain. Stop it.

Traffic was slow. Started out with 1 NL6 6max, 1 NL6 FR and 1 NL10 FR, but the 6max wasn't a very juicy game, nobody paying off very well, so I just played the two FR tables for a good 2.5 hours.

Current BR: $121.42
sandman369

What a meh day. Decent 90 minute session, took a short break only to come back to the BO client not working. Was broken for an hour or so, then it was back. Just finished another ~45 minute session and played not so well, probably because I tried a 6max again and forgot to be patient.

Current BR: $122.49

Honestly Broker, how the hell did you manage big profits every day at these stakes? Am I really that bad? I can't seem to beat the 6max games, I just don't get big hands that often and there's no bluffing the fish, and it seems like any decent hand I play and hit, they hit bigger. Argh, just frustrated.
emoninja

Hey man looks like we're doing a similar challenge atm. From looking at your thread you don't really mention much about what type of players your up against hen discussing a hand. That's how broker built his role fast, he takes a lot of notes about what the others are like. In my experience tells on bet sizing and also timing can really help.

I found on BO a small raise nearly always means that they have something really weak like 3rd pair and betting because they don't want to call a bet from you or are trying to steal but are afraid to risk a big bet. So if you then have a read on how these guys react to raises you can bluff them off their hand with a big raise or take them to value town with second pair or top pair weak kicker if you know they can't fold in this position.

Also a lot of guys love slow playing monsters, figure out who they are, if they start making pot sized bets you know they can't have much. Also use timing ie if they are slow playing a monster they usually will take more time to decide what to do whereas an insta call is usually middle pair or so.

Anyway moral of the story note taking is key!

Hope that helps. Keep confidence, I found NL 25 and 50 to be easier than 6 and 10
sandman369

I do have tons of notes, but I end up having 5 lines of conflicting notes on a lot of them, probably because most of them are just gamblers who have no defined way of playing. And 6max is annoying, it's always a lot of limps and minraises, and when I chime in with standard bigger raises, they all jump in and I miss most of the time. Cbets rarely work too. So I stick to FR and that goes slowly. Ah well I'll keep chugging on.
sandman369

Ugh what a shit session. Missed 99% of flops, took maybe 2 cbets down at most, and 90% of draw chasers hit. Whole lot of shit.

Started off today playing very bad, dunno why. I call way too much. Was playing just NL6 for a bit. Then I tightened up and opened up a couple NL10 FR after I calmed down. Not a great run of cards, most of the hands I raised PF got the absolute worst flops, but managed one big score on an NL10 table to put me in the + for today. In the future I will keep trying hard to just play for value, it's just not worth it to try and pull off bluffs or call-downs without a lot of reads. And I'm learning that on Bet Online, people will call pot-size or bigger more often than I thought.

Overall a good day! Played only NL6 FR, for a good 4.5 hours today. A few big scores and a lot of getting sucked out on (lost a $17 pot w/ two pair against two flush chasers Neutral), but that just means I'm getting it in good a huge majority of the time. I'm happy with the way I played again but can still improve, so I will continue to try doing so. I have oodles of notes on lots of people. If only the software wasn't shit!

Current BR: $149.69 (up almost 4 buy-ins after a roller coaster day woohoo)

I can play at home now! Still gonna go into town in the evenings though for sanity sake. Laughing

Hopefully it will get better soon. I did play about an hour n a half at home today though.

Current BR: $157.48

edit: SIGHHHH I decided to try NL10 now that I have 15 BI, and the gods decide to turn the switch instantly. shortstackers catching their draws on the turn and i get two pair, running QQ into KK and KK into AA, running top pair + nut flush draw into set and not hitting. Ah well, try again tomorrow. I think I'll just have one NL10 table going and the rest NL6. Very tired now, didn't get much sleep :/

My notes on the guy are how his PF raises indicate hand strength usually, overplays top pair, calls off a lot with bottom pair or draws, and is quite loose/wide range.
I hope in the future I can stop myself from doing stupid shit like this. Perhaps I should make a text file of a list of what steps to think of when it's my turn to act and have it open when I play. Well that was at home, I didn't feel like playing after that and haven't played while in town today, just feeling too upset at myself, not worth it.

Anyway, still had a small profit overall today despite that stupidity.

Not sure whether NL10 is worth it on this site. The average pots are always smaller than NL6, and sometimes less players/flop. I think NL6 just pays off way better and risks a smaller buy-in, so I'm just not going to play NL10 unless the avg pot is big enough to justify it.

I dunno man, I am a decent player when I'm in the right mood, but that's rare and erratic. I have a pathetic life and am depressed most of the time.

After more than month at Bet Online and only ever getting my BR as high as ~230 (and losing 100 the next day), when other guys easily did 1k in a month, and then spewing it all away and hating myself even more, it's clear I should just quit poker until I feel ok about myself. Because you can be the best player, but if you will eventually tilt it all away, it doesn't matter how well you play and for how long you can go before it happens.

Peace out everyone. Maybe I'll be back some day if I get a hold of my life. In such a bad rut that I don't see that happening, but hey, I still have just enough hope left to not give up on life. I'll stop plaguing this poker forum with my personal mental problems, I'm sure people are sick of me.

Take Care sandman...

remember..

everyone runs bad ....trick is, to look for the good!

trust me... I do know how hard that can be. I have had extreme depression in the past.. I  broke out of it.... probably due to my stubborness. (thankfully, I was'nt playing poker at that time)

cheers.

High Pulse Poker... however, since I've cashed out most of it, I have not been doing well at all there. This may be due to I am working insane hours right now and playing very little poker. I'm not in the groove at the moment.... playing tired.. etc. etc.  (insert lame excuse's here)

but still definately a site worth checking out in my opinion.. especially for tournament grinders... they seem to be ridiculously easy....
