ROI

what would be a good ROI to have? I know higher the better, but what is 'good/average' for a winning player?

Reason why I'm asking is because my buddy and I have a challenge going where there are 5 different points to win:

-most profit
-best avg profit/game
-longest streak
-most games played
-we play each other, best 6/11 games

He is winning in all of them (except the last one, we haven't done that yet)
i'm not going in detail as to what the prize is, cuz it changes if you win 5-0 or 4-1 or 3-2.  But we have 28 days to play $10 HU SNGs, reg speed and no 4 mans.

Current standing:
Me: 83 played, $1.31 avg prof., $109 total profit (even though ROI isn't there, but it is 12%), and my longest streak is 6 (a 59.04% win rate)
him: 103 played, $3.29 avg prof, $339 total profit (his ROI is 31%), and his longest streak is 16. (68.93% win rate)

I know 31% ROI is high, it is because of his streak he went on yesterday. But is 12% average? low? high?

Most places i have read say 10% ROI is good. I of course want to do much better for myself

12% is pretty fcuking awsome! 31% is unserstainable, i don't think even borg could do that!!!! but over 103 games it is possible (im currently doing about that over my last 100 games!

Yeah this kinda question comes up a lot and in all honesty it depends on the stakes and speed.

30% is sustainable, if you played like 1/2$ deeps, and that would be at a push. But if you play like $30+ then you're looking at an ROI of about 5-10% I'd say. I think mine is like 9-12% overall and I don't consider myself a bad player, obviously there are those that can do a lot better than me, and those that can't handle poker and end up spewing off.

So, in short, there is no real answer, but with enough common sense you can see that ROI's at the lower stakes are going to be higher than those near the top of the ladder.

Don't waste your time worrying about it to be honest. Just play the best you can, every single hand, and the $ will come. Drive you mad watching your ROI going up and down.

also roi is hugely effected by how many tables u play at once

The attainable roi is mostly dependent on what game structure you are playing.  With FTP's Superturbos having the lowest roi [3-5%] and FTP's Deepstack having the highest [20%].  However, it seems to me that your question is actually one of which is the most profitable game to play.  And that is much more complicated than just seeing which has the highest roi.  Your hourly rate is the important number.  Simple example is that if you can play 4 superturbos in the same time that you take to play one deepstack then you have the same hourly.  And even that is more complicated.  Superturbos have much more variance in them [variance is a function of roi] so the swings will be bigger and you will need to have a much larger bankroll to play them.  You should have 100 buyins for superturbos while 25 would be fine for deepstacks.  And then you have to figure out which is best for you.  The different speeds require different skills and a different mindset.
