Results orientated

Hi all,

"short sighted results-oriented mindsets"

I'm trying to work on all aspects of my HU play including the mental side. I am becoming aware that im getting a little bit results orientated playing HUSNG, and this is effecting the volume i put in, if im in the green i become game shy about going in the red and prevents me playing the amount of games i could play in a day.

When i played cash games i over came this as i  could open up more tables and more tables and just concentrate on volume. However, playing only 1 HUSNG table at a time is making me results orientated as i said.

Any advice, articles or  videos i can watch to click my mindset into gear on this subject?

I know poker is a long term game not short term, and i should think of it  as long term, but with HUSNG im finding it hard not to think: "

i wont play anymore today i will finish in the green if i play any more i may lose and  go into the red for the day".

I also find myself putting in more  volume  when i lose the first couple games than if i win the first couple.

So my mindset on this issue is incorrect and was wondering if you guys could offer or point me towards some solid advice to get me  back on track with this.

I could just swear that I wrote those lines...totally mirrors my state of mind on most of the days.

I'm not the best person to give advices on this, but this is what I try to do:

Try to not be looking constantly to your roll, don't scope your results and try to make a mental objective, something like 10 games in 2 hours. And only analyse your results after the session. If you feel that you are playing well...continue, otherwise just take a break.

If you can stick to a plan you should be fine. If you can overcome this...please teach how  Sad

You could try instead of wanting to finish a session/day in the green concentrate on the week, then shift it back to the month etc. It's all just one long session with intervals in between anyway Smile

I would just have to resist the temptation to take a peak at the day total LOL.............. Nice idea though, I use hem so dont think i can set the totals for a week, but month i can.

If you're using hem go to TOURNEY>RESULTS>ALL HANDS and just change it to whatever you like, week, month, year..... Why is a winning session so important that you'd rather play say 7 games and be up than risk playing more and perhaps not be up, perhaps if you think about that question it will help you change your thinking towards being "results orientated" In fairness the whole results orientated thing is only meant to be applied on a single hand basis as far as I understand, for example making the correct decision and not getting hung up if you take a bad beat. You can't just ignore your results entirely.

Stop looking at HEM. Stop looking at your cashier window. Start taking every decision at the tables seriously. Enjoy playing poker, without stressing about the results, and all in the world is good.

Easier said than done, but I never ever check my HEM until the end of a session now, okay I can't go to the end of the month, but it's an improvement on how I used to be.

I like it. Thanks, guess its another thing i need to disciipline myself on

I've got the same problem. You are not the only one, don't worry.   Smile

My goals were for example: on the 10s, will stop when i make 30$.   Laughing 30 days * 30$ is 900$ haha. Yeah wright.
That sucks. Because, when i make 4 wins in a row, stoped playing because i was satisfied with my result, and when day goes bad from the start, usually make swing which i've returned for next 2, somethimes 3 days.     Shocked

Also, agree for not to watch HEM and cashier, because every time i looked on the cashier and told myself: "now you have to make 600, 700, 800$, i failled and had swing because i felt like i had to do that and there's no other options. It's mental stress when you think you HAVE to do something.

So, that's definnitely wrong approach   Embarassed
