Phil Hellmuth Lesson

I'm in an online league with a guy who won a 2 hour poker lesson with Phil Hellmuth in a charity event. He's flying out to Vegas in a couple of weeks to meet him, and he's wanting to know what he should ask - besides the obvious smartass questions like:

- Are you high/What are you on?
- What was it like when you were one of the best?
- Have you tried Prozac?

And of course, other questions along those lines.

But if you had 2 hours with a guy who has won 11 bracelets, would you focus on tournament strategy questions? If not, what would you want to learn?

I'm going to copy my league buddy on this, maybe he'll weigh in.

You could ask him if he thinks running it 5 times might be better than 4 times........

On a more serious note:

I doubt Phil can learn you anything in 2 hours about poker strategy. Anything he can learn you in 2 hours you can learn by reading some book or something online. He has even written some books himself so you might as well read that.

I would focus more on other stuff that your friend might have in common. Maybe some simular hobbies ?

If it has to be poker, some stuf like how much he works on his game and how does he work on his game. Try to find out what made Phil the succes that he is. Thats not because of some poker strategy.

Definitely focus on tournament strategy. Phil I think would be the first person to tell you that he's not very good at cash games. I agree with nachtwacht here, ask him what it is that made him such a success, how he improves his game.

+1 to what nachtwacht said!

Phil Hellmuth is one of the most successful tournament poker players of all time and has won more money in tournaments in the last 10 years than any other player. He has a record nine gold bracelets (tying with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan) and is one of the all time top money winners. Nobody can compare to hellmuth he's the best. If you say no well he does have 11 bracelets and that's more than anybody. So that makes him the best and shows it every time. Just because he sometimes whine it doesn't make him a lesser poker player. Another way he is brilliant is the TV time he gets. This is just a marketing tool, which he found out is profitable.

I would ask him how has the game changed over the years and what changes he's made to his game. What he does tomanage tilt, as it isusually broadcasted so anyone can see. And, what he does to prepare to play tournaments, ie..table reads, reviews, & what is on his i-pod

Are you both in this league??  Colonel?

I dont know if i would bother too much about strategy and the like in a 2 hour block, but it is a great opportunity to delve into his life as a professional poker player.  For me i would ask stuff like....

Life on the road ?
What does he spend his winnings on ?
When will he thing its time to "retire" ?
What is there for him life after poker ?
Memorable moments....

Poker related stuff, just not the mundane things like "what hands do you play in different positions" etc. etc.

Enjoy dude, as this is really a once in a lifetime.

Yes, Step DAAD, Colonial and I are in the same league with our friend that won the 2 hour session.  He told me about his post and I thought it was a good idea, thus posted it here.
