My Bankroll Build / Moral Support ThreadHey guys,
Guess it's time to start my own little blog about the state and hopefully the rise of my bankroll.
Unfortunately there is going to be alittle bit of whining first, because I'm starting this blog from a pretty low point.
Some history: I'd been playing husngs for a while, mostly $1 turbos and doing ok. Eventually I built my bankroll up and moved to the $2 games and quickly realized that without alot of study I probally wasn't going much further. But I was enjoying the format so that was ok. Around this time I stumbled onto this site, watched some free vids, liked what I saw and started to introduce some of the concepts into my game. My results improved and life was good.
I qucikly made the decision to shell out for the condensed course. I watched the videos, was really impressed with the content, made loads of notes, completely overhauled the way I planned to play and hit the tables expecting instant success.
Oh how wrong I was.
You see making small adjustments to an existing style is a great way of gradually getting better, but a completely new style - well that takes some getting used to, a losing period if you will. It's much worse if you're like me and tilt a little after a mistake
And that's where we catch up with the present, with me languishing, hopefully near the end, of a pretty bad downswing.
Oh well, onwards and upwards. I'm gonna start setting some weekly goals here and posting updates on my progress. I'll also post some thoughts on the course, how I'm profiling opponents, how my game has changed, bad beats (of course ) and anything else that takes my fancy.
Week1:
Play more games. Aim for at least 10 a day, but don't force it if I'm losing.
Watch more videos. Why do we bet?, 50-500 bankroll challenge and some leakfinder vids from the forum.
Get some HH from tough games and get my own leakfinder done.
Work on take notes during a match.
Todays results:
Games played - 4 @ $1.10
In the Money - 3
RoI - 36.4%
Profit - $1.60
Current bankro$ll: $76.65
Yup, today was a pretty poor effort on my part, but I had quite alot more to do than a normal day so that's ok. Pleased with how I played, started taking alot more notes. Im using a little template in the player note box - like this:
Preflop:
IP: F L R
Fold to stab after limp:
Call stab:
Raise stab:
OOP: LUL R CR FR RR
Fold to stab after limp:
Calls stab:
Raise stab:
Donk stab:
Postflop Betting Lines:
IP:
OOP:
Basically I take really detailed notes on the first 6 or 7 hands, how they play in position (limp, raise, fold) and how they react to stab bets in limped pots, and out of position (lets us limp, raises, calls my raises, folds to my raise, reraises) and how they react to stab bets in limped pots.
Then I try to classify them (LAG, tight passive etc) and finally I try to make notes of some betting lines or patterns both IP and OOP.
I'm not sure what you guys make of that, but it helps me to focus.
Here's an example of notes taken in a game earlier today:
Preflop:
IP: 2F 4L 4R
Fold to stab after limp: 1
Call stab: 2
Raise stab: 1
OOP: 6LUL 2R CR 2FR RR
Fold to stab after limp: 3
Calls stab: 1
Raise stab:
Donk stab: 2
TIGHT AND AGGRESSIVE
Postflop Betting Lines:
IP: limp or raise, c-bet/call, check = weak
OOP: limp pre, check/call, check/call, check river = strong ??
3x 3bet = weak ?
capable of check/raise flop in raised pot
bluffs raised pot when flop goes check/check ??
As you can see its pretty basic stuff, but hopefully I'll get there before too long.
Hmm, this opening post has been a heck of a lot longer than I intended it to be, so thanks/congratulations if you've managed to be read all of it
I'll be back shortly with more, until then good luck to you all.

I used to take a lot of notes
but now i am more interested in the type of player
is he aggressive
if he is then i dont fold as easy and try to get a look at his cards on the river even if it means checking in position
if 'I have a hand and bet bet bet and he comes along all the way
i try to make sure I got 2 pair or better
some players cant be bluffed very often
if i notice something like i see he has 3 bet me preflop with rags
then i take a note
now if i catch him at it again
i will pretend to be weak in an attempt to get him to over play his hand
when i first started taking notes a lot of them didnt help my game
and when i got the guy again i didnt understand what they meant
i like the cc=weak
and this type of thing
timing tells one of the most interesting is
ultra quick call is most likely weak
min raise instantly can be strong but is player dependent
eg if i hold in AA oop
any min raise and i am instabet back at him
What I am trying to do is get him to 4 bet me some time they do
so beware of instabet min raises
good luck and I hope i may have helped you with your note taking

hey guys,
thanks for the replies, nice to know there's someone out there
I had a nice long post all written up with lots of thoughts and questions on BRM, HUDs and how I'm playing, but I guess I took too long or something and got logged out and it was all lost to the depths of the internet ... fffffuuuuuu !!!
too tired to even try retype it all now so I'll save it for later in the week.
But here's todays results anyway:
Games Played: 12 @ $1.10 - 16 Total
In the Money: 11 - 14 Total
RoI % Total: 59.1
Todays Profit: $8.80
Total Profit: $10.40
Bankroll: $85.45
until next time, run good everyone

After a pretty good day yesterday, today was pretty bad.
Remember what I said about not playing when I wasn't feeling in the right mind frame ? Yeah, that didn't work out so well.
Of the 17 games I played I managed to lose 9 - included 6 of the last 7 !
Really got to get some articles on the psychology side of the game and start studying.
The first two were ak vs pocket pairs 4 betting all in preflop against aggro opponents, so that was ok I think, but then I started losing to really bad suckouts - flop top set, lose to runner/runner flush, flop straight, lose to rivered better straight, hit two pair, now they have a set etc etc
Looking at the last game I'd pretty much become a nit I was so desperate not to lose !
Anyway here's the story so far:
Games Played: 33 @ $1.10
Games Won: 22
ITM%: 66.7
ROI%: 21.2
Profit: $7.70
Bankroll: $82.75
Think I'll aim for at least 100 and $100 roll before moving up to the $2s.
Was planning on watching some poker vids now, but I think I'll skip it tonight and watch Black Swan instead and start again with a clear head tomorrow.
G'night and good luck

Disaster Strikes !
It's been a sad week, it appears that my old faithful laptop has moved on to the great computer store in the sky. She's in the shop being looked at as we speak, but I doubt there's much to be done. That means there has been no poker for the last few days, no new updates to bring you and worst of all, all my hand histories that I was going to use for leakfinders are gone
Still, I guess it does mean the possibility of a shiny new machine at some point.
I'll be back with more when I'm up and running again, in the mean time I'm getting a friend to rip some of the videos on the site and put em on my ipod for watching.
Until next time, run good everyone.

I know what that feels like, I have a laptop grave yard in my cupboard! One day I'll make one last longer than a year! lol

No, but I did a quick search to see what you were referring to...managed to resist the urge to click the link - judging from the replies I think that was probally a good move
Just a quick general update on how things are going. Not sure of what you guys make of Phil Iveys lawsuit against Full Tilt, but I've pretty much lost all faith in them...plus their software has gotten really unreliable for me over the last several updates.
So anyway I'm in the process of withdrawing my roll and moving it to an account I have on the Merge network.
Also, my taxback from the four months I worked in Australia the end of last year/this year has come through, so a nice little bonus for me next month It should also mean I can give my bankroll a little boost and skip the superturbos on merge and hop straight onto the $6 turbos.
Anyway, hope to back on the grind within the next two weeks.
