Live CashHey guys,
what level of play to you think you should be at online before heading out to play live at casinos etc?
I'm just relating it to cash games so would you say you should be beating 50nl online before playing live? I know its really hard to tell but i'm just trying to get an idea etc.
Thanks

1/2 live is super soft I've heard, if you can beat 10nl online you could probs beat 1/2 live.

Playing live is a different game though. It is true that the level of play probably is worse than your average 10NL pokerstars table but it is so for a reason. Hands go very slow so it is very easy to get bored. You see people play worse hands so what you will do is... open up your own play... after all, you should easily be able to beat those suckers playing all that shit. But that makes it a much more volatile game. So the best thing you can do is sit tight and wait for some good hands and then play those. Thats extremely boring though

Jon. I used to play at nottingham at dusk till dawn there which is a pure poker venue. Google it if you don't know it, anyway back when I used to play cash games online I made about 4k nearly in a month that was about 8 days worth of playing 6-8 hour sessions, the best was when they held the Norwegian open there as most of them who got knocked out of through main event just got drunk and played for fun since it was like a holiday for them. I won a pot at 1/2pound games for close on 900pounds which is my biggest win on one hand ever but for the other sessions I played 50p/1pound.

Just to give you an example there of how soft they are, as nachtwacht said people get bored, get drunk or just like to have fun. Its a much more social environment.

i dont find the live games boring at all. It's definately slower by far... but, you have alot more to pay attention to, in terms of 'player watching', observing and taking mental notes (unless your on a nitfest table, then it's boring as f**k). I was on a $1/$2 table yesterday that had over $7000.00 on it... it was a wild and crazy game... very entertaining players as well.
love the brick and mortar game most days.

Jon I would seriously consider getting yourself too dusk till dawn, you need to register first though online I think, but its like the largest poker room in Europe or least it was. Ill talk to you on skype about it.

I'm in Surrey B.C. (vancouver) I play in 5 different local poker rooms around the city... Recently I have been injured at work and have been playing about 6 days a week... generally though i play at least 3x a week.

How is the variance at these games? I'm interested but I think I'm a bit short on money.

well, Im roughly 20 sessions since mexico and I have won roughly $1200 a week.... as for variance, coolers etc... It happens... but not nearly as much imo. Yes i know there are alot more hands per hour online and all that... but I can find the fold button alot more live than i can online... prolly because I can read people better, which is a huge diffference.
today I got my kk allin preflop and lost to AQ <--- who was making a squeeze play and got lucky hitting his one ace left in the deck (found out two players folded an ace afterwords).... sigh
Oh... and Im playing the small limits... $300 buy in.
