Learning HUSNG's - Micro to low in 2011So far, I've played about 200 HUSNG's since starting them this year. Winning at the $1's, losing at the $2's. My goal for 2011 is to be rolled for, and beating the $5-$11 games at the end of this year.
Just received HEM, importing hands now. Found this site, and have also bought a subscription to HUSNG.com, which should be processed within a few days.
I plan on setting volume goals, as well as study goals, and being very active within the forums. This will be hard to achieve, as I'm still at school, and also working part time, and about to get into going to the gym a couple of times a week. That's what makes this challenge hard, if I could purely study and grind for a living, I'm sure I'd be past the low stakes this year.
Gl in your journeys, GL to me in mine too!

Cheers guys.
Playing at full tilt.
Anyway, I'm not made of money, so I'll be using conservative bankroll management of 40 buy ins, will probably switch that up to 50 when I get into the midstakes, but 40 should be ok for the micros.
My starting roll is at $46.68, should hopefully get in a few reg speeds (trying them out, bit lower variance and less push/fold than the turbos) tonight!
|
Jakester1288
|
Will be taking a 30BI shot at the $2's (reg speeds probably) and dropping back at $50.
So, the bankroll management atm:
$64.50 - move up to $2's, drop at $50
Will be adopting 30 buy ins for the $5/6's as well if the two's are successful, then moving up to 40 buy ins, but will get to that when I need to.

Alright, well I've deposited $30 (29.90 with currency conversion) into my account so I can have another crack at the two's. I'm going to play reg speeds only until I'm beating the games.
Roll stands at $76.88

5-5 in the 2.15's tonight, down $1.50 because of the rake though.
Pretty disappointed with how I played, at the end I was losing focus and not really concentrating, I think I need to put in really short sessions, like 2 games, and start working my way up. I wish I could put in long sessions (cus I'm realllyyyy results orientated), but atm I'm just not capable of it.
Bankroll: $75.38

If you arent capable of playing longer sessions, you need to find a way to stop being results orientated. Think of your roll as a high score on a video game, that helped me

Set myself a goal of 15 games tonight, hit it.
ITM: 46.7%
Profit/loss: -$4.25
Bonus cleared: $1.50/$2.99
Not sure if my rakebacks working, cause I should have got some today, but yeah, pretty bad day, wasn't terrible, and I did run under EV.
I'll post graphs at the end of each months, with monthly stats, so I can hopefully see myself improving.
Working tomorrow 9:30-4:30, coming home, working for 1 hour on assignments, then planning on playing 15 games, and spending 1 hour studying poker as well (the $2 hand histories from today, then if I have time left, maybe some vids or Moshmans book).

Profit/loss: +6.20
Bonus cleared: $1.50/$2.99 ($29.90 total)

Run good, had a couple of matches vs a fish and took his money
Will be looking into getting a sharkscope subscription in the near future as well.

Only 10 games so far, goal is to put in 30 games over Friday/Sat/Sun (can't play tonight cus I'm working, or Sat/Sun through the day), and to watch a vid a day.
Will update Sunday night.

Running bad atm. Not terrible luck wise, lost some standard **** like nines to K8, also lost KK vs TT, run 99 into TT, would be up for the day but whatever, that's poker. Feeling really tilted atm, need to learn how to handle tilt, but I'm pretty tired so shouldn't be playing anyway.
-1.20 today, good result cause I made some stupid post flop calls, was playing more aggressively, and I felt more comfortable taking the lead in 3bet pots, time to watch a video and take notes, then off to bed for an early night, hopefully up early to play a couple of games, as tomorrow arvo I'll be playing the first depositors freeroll (maybe a few 45 mans on the side, don't want to play HU while I'm MTTing) after work.
BR = $87.08
Bonus cleared = $5.98/$29.90
Sorta wish I deposited more to get more of a bonus, but oh well.

Hit $100 and moved to the $5's, lost 3 games straight, couple bad beats/misplayed hands etc etc, standard, but hurts when you are just at a new limit. Games are definitely beatable, going to wait for 25-30 buy ins this time.

Heh, been so lazy lately. Haven't been watching many videos, haven't been reviewing ANY hands. Basically just playing a bit, not near enough, not putting in any time.
Can't wait for next month to make some new goals and get a fresh start. Will update at the end of the month, with some new goals, that are setting the bar very high.

Haven't been around here for a little bit. Been running pretty bad, but also quit/left HUSNG's for a little bit to try out FR cash, but I'm back. I love HUSNG lol, can't leave it.
Looking into coaching options, PM'd brokerstar about a stake and coaching but that's unlikely, if I am unsuccessful I'll be looking into getting his condensed course, then maybe some leakfinders/HH reviews from HUSNG.com coaches.
My HUSNG career graph:

Jakester1288

Quick update.
I've decided to take Brokerstar's course, but instead of him explaining the player types to me, he'll be doing me 4 leakfinders, which I'm pretty excited for.
Also looking into getting a stake/some coaching from another coach, not sure if that's going to work out, but hopefully it does.
My HUSNG's have been going really poorly, also I should receive my HH review back from a HUSNG.com review tomorrow, looking forward to seeing what leaks he identifies and working on plugging them.
Also branching into the super turbos, they're supppppeeeeerrrrrr high variance, but they're fun.
I'll just update with my roll, it's currently at $63.

Alright. Received 2.20 in rakeback today, sent 3.30 to a friend so we could play some 1.10 games for fun, we played 2 and I won them both.
Overall day graph:
GOOD NEWS:
I have paid for and received Brokerstars videos, which will hopefully be immensely helpful. I am also close to getting a staking/coaching package for HUSNG's, which would be awesome! I received my HH review back, there was no major leaks spotted, just a few small ones, which is good, and I can work on correcting.
I feel like everything is turning around from my downswing, hopefully I'll start coming back up now.
Life graph:
(lol @ micro HU rake, winning 53% of games and still getting raped, also lol @ my volume)
Roll is at $69.29, if I didn't ship a few bucks to my friend I'd be finally back to where I started my 2+2 challenge thread at (that challenge is $70 to $500).
I'm also going to quit cash for the moment, need to focus on HUSNG's now I have way less time with school and work.
Time for some goals, just the usual **** I never achieve any of.
May goals:
[] Watch ALL of Brokerstars videos from the course, and the related ones (eg his personal games vs different player types) that he sent me
[] Take notes on the coaching/theory videos, and if it warrants it, notes on his personal games/contact him for discussion
[] Sort out my stake, if it goes ahead
[] Gym 3x week
[] 150 reg speed/deepstacks
[] 500 supers if I decide/am allowed to play them, if not, 200+ regs/deeps
[] Profit
GOGOGO, next month I WILL achieve my goals!
|
Jakester1288
|
Only 2 games today, spend a good amount of time watching a coaching video and taking notes, 1 game before and 1 after. Didn't really want to play because my head was filled with information about one player type, and I didn't want to be overcome with information about one player type, but if I come up against a different one (which I did), be clueless.
Tomorrow I've got the day off work, so will watch the other 2 videos in the series with extensive notes, then set about getting some 1 on 1 time with Brokerstar to get him to quiz me, then play some games and get my leaks plugged.
This months graph:
Easily my worst month, was very lazy at the start and my terrible results resulted in me switching to cash games, but I just couldn't leave HUSNG's, so have made what will hopefully be one of the best moves of my poker career and got some coaching, which will hopefully get me winning again.
I will turn it around next month, I promise!

Finished Brokerstar's condensed course videos today, and set out to play some games. In most of my games I pretty quickly identified my opponent, and felt I had a good edge and was playing well. I misplayed a couple of hands in the heat of battle, but I recognize that, and it's OK, that happens, but obviously I must strive to avoid this happening as much as possible.
Shipped a 2.20 4 man, played another, got to the final table and got the chips in with a gutshot and a flush draw, hit it on the river, but not after he'd turned a full house
Played 11 regular games, mostly reg speeds, finished -$3.65 there, ended up 2 tabling (registered for the shootout and the reg speed, as earlier on the shootout took a while to fill), and I didn't notice them both fill within about a minute, and I had to 2 table. When I was 2 tabling, I struggled to identify my opponents style, and his tendencies, and pretty must went into autopilot, which I must also avoid.
Overall, I'm just up for the day with rakeback, and will get some more of my bonus released tomorrow. Won't have a huge amount of playing time, as Monday and Friday's are gym days, but as long as I'm not too tired after it, I'll be right to hopefully put in 10+ games.

Re watched Cog Dissonance's video on focus, and took some notes. Instead of thinking in games, I will now be thinking in terms of playtime.
My sessions are going to be in 20 minute blocks, my avg game time is about 12 minutes overall, but I think it'll be increasing now I'm small balling. I think I'll be playing 1 game sets basically, and really focusing on every decision. I know I play good poker and can beat the games when I do this.
So from now on, my volume isn't going to be huge, but hopefully my ROI will be.
Month so far:
Date: 3rd
Games: 21
Profit/loss: +$2.75
ROI: 6.1%
Also, will have my first leakfinder from Brokerstar up by tomorrow. Lets see what leaks he can spot, and then I can work on fixing them.
|
Jakester1288
|
Just 1 game yesterday, wasn't feeling focused, so elected not to play any further.
Got my first leakfinder done by Brokerstar, if you want, you can have a look here:
http://www.tagpoker.co.uk/outer_p...aching_videos/broker_may0411.html
Also, I keep going back to the super turbos. They're so fun, and these players are complete donks, but I can't run well, and if I'm running poorly, I don't feel like playing good volume. I could smash out so many of these super turbos, but just don't feel like it when I'm running poorly.
|
Jakester1288
|
Well, after waking up sick at 3am and almost ruining my month at the super turbos, I'm going to stay home from being sick and I've decided to play a $5.50 tournament. It's not the best BRM from me (under 15 bi's), as it'll be super high variance, and I'm not well versed in the turbo structure, but hopefully it'll attract some weak donk's, and if I get a deep run, it could give my bankroll a huge boost.
Depending on how I go, I might play these tournaments regularly, whenever I have >15 bi's, but we'll see. Lets hope I can ship a nice score and get back to grinding the $5's, looking to make back my 12bi's that I lost there last time around!
Gl all, and gl me!

Jakester1288

Busted the shootout 8th/14. Not many runners, if I'm rolled I'll definitely play some more, shame their at really inconvenient times.
Going to watch a couple of movies, and get back on the grind tonight. Will update you soon!
|
Jakester1288
|
Short term goal: Grind up to $100, while studying 1 HUSNG.com/TAGpoker video a day, so I can move to iPoker where there's less rake.
|
Jakester1288
|
Moved to $5 games on a short bankroll, don't care if I bust atm.
Ok, I've only been playing when I want these last few days, I'm either getting over poker (plzz nooo) or just feeling a bit burnt out, and feeling like doing other things.
Here's my monthly graph so far.
Sent off another HH file to get a short review made, looking forward to getting that back, then finally putting in some time and some volume. I won't have as much of a chance when exam time comes around this year, but oh well.

Idk what happened, but I barely played for a while, came back and am hooked again. Guess I just needed a break.
Australian online poker might be dying, which would pretty much be the death of me, and a lot of other people, would be a huge shame. But until then, I'm going to be playing a decent amount, but also studying a lot.
I've set up someone for sweat sessions, but I'm also going to be putting a lot more time into reading the forums, and studying videos (properly, taking notes, not just watching), and actually reviewing my own hands. I've decided that for a little while, I'm going to be reviewing the match just played after completing it, before I can move onto the next game. That's starting now.
On dial up speed unfortunately, but I ended last month losing all $50 profit due to some runbad, tilt, and bad play
Anyways, back on the horse, lets keep on grinding.

Jakester1288

Ok, well I ended up losing all of last months profit due to running bad, not focusing, and a bit of tilt, but there's nothing I can do about that. Very slow start to the month, as I couldn't play for personal reasons for the first week (only a few games), got 32 games in 11 days in :O
Anyway, I've decided to stop playing turbos for a bit, the variance is too much for a 18ish bi bankroll, and they put me into the uncomfortable range (20-50bbs, uncomfortable for me) straight away. I'm going to be playing probably 60% deepstacks, 20% reg speeds, and 20% shootouts, really working on my deepstack game as theres a lot of passive fish who don't really know what they're doing, and the reg speeds are also very crushable.
Breaking even for the month, but I've downloaded all of the standard HUSNG.com vids, time to get through them, plus actually watch some of the TAGpoker vids.
I wish I wasn't so lazy!

Ok, well after I finish work today, I have 2 weeks off school, so this month I want to play 400 reg speeds (not sure on avg gametime and stuff yet though). Don't like the stars software, FT is so much better.
My BRM should be like this:
$3.50 till 140
$7 until under 100, or move up at $300
That should keep me going for a while. Hopefully I can clear my whole bonus of $150 or so at the $7 level, or be able to move up to the $15's.

Process orientated goal setting is really helpful in keeping the player motivated to improve because its something that you have a lot of control over and can be fun to see how you put the revision or new information into practice....
So set 1-3 things you would really like to work on like...keep it low becasue otherwisee poker is so diverse you may water down learning and feel overwhelmed...
.....and put a length of time you are prepared to focus on it....maybe a goal may need serious study or maybe a certain goal may just need revewing and keeping your book open on that page for easy review while playing....
Off the cuff examples....
Bet sizing and reasons behind it and to compare your bet sizing to Brokers and are there any differences.
Board textures.....
End game......
Now these are just examples...
Focus on some process orientated goals that you believe will make the MOST improvement to your game....
Once this is in place set money and ROI goals etc etc but dont make them your priority make them a bi product......
Whatever happens you maybe have a new awareness of something different...
p.s I have yet to do this but its one of the biggest changes in my approach to the game Im working on at this present moment....
So really Im kinda telling myself to do this...whilst noticing your setting goals that tilt the crap out of most poker players in the end....
|
z1s6arn
|
Additional thought:
If a player sets financial goals and volume goals alone_stagnation occcurs
If a player doesnt set finacial/volume goals/BR goals and has just learning and growth goals then player doesnt have a focus to really get somewhere...it seems he would learn for the sake of learning, he would develop but without any real direction....
I think I mentioned to focus on process orientated goals as a priority and then kinda think of a finacial/results orientated goal as a bi product...
Well....hmmmm
I now think its best to set a specific goal post financially, with volume in mind and a ROI goal ( I was given above 10% at a certain buy in level for one month in ordr to be allowed to move up which really gave me something to drive towards with regard to ROI)
then once this is in place a huge amount of thought needs to go into what skills you exactly need to achieve your original results orientated goals and then a plan of exactly how and what your going to focus on first that will make the greatest improvement and during this whole processyour analyzinng your progress realted to both result and process orientated goals in order to make any fine tune adjustments in order to hit the bulls eye.
Apologies for this little rant...I'm thinking out loud and probs should have put into into my own thread as I babble....

Confused
Not really sure about what to do. I've heard FT should be back up within a week, and I'd probably prefer to play there (rakeback, deepstacks, got my roll there etc). However, I need to pay back my $50 that I've been loaned from ChrisB [thanks mate] (currently down to $2 , so I have to either grind it up (which I plan on doing until FT comes back), and ship back when FT returns, or make a deposit of about $150 to have a roll on Stars, and also be able to pay back the money borrowed.
Anyway, I'm currently playing the $1.50 reg speeds until I hit about $35, then I'll play the $3.5's until I'm below $20. Hopefully that won't happen, I lost too many $$$ just trying to grind out games, but not playing my A game or focusing near enough. Watched a few HUSNG.com vids (MJW's beating the midstakes powerpoint, part 2, helped a lot), and I'm keen to get back to grinding but not focusing on volume, instead, focusing on improving myself. What I'd like to do is pick a couple of things I'm not very strong at, and really focus on them. Currently, this is <30bb play. Since I'm planning on moving to turbos at Stars (maybe even at FT in the future, where you begin at 50bb), I really need to work on my endgame, so I'm going to be looking out for lots of tough spots and discussing them. Another huge leak of mine is playing too fancy. I always make plays that are pointless at the micro's, they're just going to get called and called. So I need to restrict these to only against tight opponents, not anyone.
Time to get back to grinding!
|
Jakester1288
|
Ok ChrisB, check your PM's. I've just got my deposit through, roll on Stars is $125 once I pay Chris back. Lets grind $3.50 reg speeds.

Cool thread, just read it from start to finish, was nice to see it going from bad to good with those two great graphs! Do have one question though. You said:
| Jakester1288 wrote: | | Re watched Cog Dissonance's video on focus, and took some notes. Instead of thinking in games, I will now be thinking in terms of playtime. |
What do you mean by this, exactly? Not sure if I've heard of this concept before (maybe under a different term). Thanks!
|
savrababa
|
Well the concept is to not make volume goals because you end up subconsciously rushing the action when playing in order to reach your goals.
Instead make time goals.
E.g. I'll play for 30 mins, then take a break for 10 min, then play 30 mins e.t.c.
