it takes skillhey guys.
i'm hopeful that i can maintain 15%~ ROI at the levels i play at and clock in a decent volume. i'm a turbo player as i believe the standard of the players at $15/$30 on stars ($11s and $22s on FTP) is insanely bad.
i've played HU sngs for years now and usually when i try a bankroll build or 'go pro' (devoting working type hours to poker) i fall apart due to frustration or boredom. a lot has changed in my game in the recent months and even weeks... i'm much more zenlike about poker. when i get it in against a fish dominating and he finds a miracle 3-outer every single time i sigh and say 'well that just means i have to work a little longer' or 'i made the correct decision and this will be indicated by my luck adjusted winnings on HEM. anyhow!!! that's for reading, time for my first ENTRY:
day #1 - out of the gates slowly
soooo. day 1 started with dropping 3 buyins to a guy i had not much of an edge over, was disappointed with myself.. i try not to humanize players by even rematching them (unless they're brilliantly awful). i took a few hours to work at other stuff and came back on and proceeded to play a lot better but run fairly bad. AK v K5 was never good. this luck never really shifted, so i was happy to finish out the day +2.3 buyins. GG.
PS - just in case anyone doesn't know - the green line represents actual winnings & the red shows luck adjusted winnings

i lack DISCIPLINEday #4: (i'm counting from tuesday ;P)
long version: so i clocked in a decent volume the past couple of days. thursday was definitely a day in which i lapsed back into my 4-tabling autopilot ways. although the standard is low at $15 turbo on stars, i think it's definitely -EV just to tableninja/autopilot my way through games.
this revelation came to me when i got in a series of games with this russian who wasn't particularly good, but just 3bet an insane amount. he claimed to be a $50 player from FTP... but i was playing predictable poker, folding to 90% of his steals and 3xing almost every button. he started 3betting 50-70% it was crazy. anyhow, i beat him in the majority of our games (i sucked out a couple of times) but it really jarred me back to reality... i needed insane focus to be +EV against him and i took that level of focus to my play today and hit a nice little heater.
tbh i was playing brilliant poker too i could have done better, there were a few games where i made moves i'm not happy with but i'm definitely getting back to my best game and really thinking properly about the game. i think i'll uninstall tableninja haha.
short version: good day today, ran bad-ish + played horribly yesterday. i'm learning/getting back to 100% of my ability!
goals: clock in less volume + work on ROI. i want 15% on 250-300 games a week before i move up to $30...

hahah
players call cbets so much more because they assume your awful nodelay snapflopbet or just repeptitive numbers in your bets mean you're constantly bluffing.
IMO it was great for multitabling microstakes particularly before stars increased the speed of its sng tables

i'm going to stop numbering these posts by DAYso i was megabusy on saturday. i think i was +1.3 buyins then i went to see PRINCE. amazing gig.
SUNDAY - dived on to wreck the 4-man shootouts. little tip for people hoping to play $15~ turbo... i'm winning most of my games by showing little to no respect for autopilot raisers button min/3xing (70%+ steal). in one game i think i was 3betting 75%, it was hilarious.
i'm probably going to take another week at $15 shootouts with a view to moving up to $30 after i string together 4-5 solid days of 15% ROI. of course, if i completely fail, you'll see me at $15 a little longer ;]
PS. not running great with allins but i don't give a fuck.

brahrunning bad/playing bad
played hung over i think twice this week. today i dived on and played quite hung over which is me breaking rule #1 of my personal poker laws. rule #2 is to stop playing or at least take a break if i lose 5 consecutive buyins. i broke that too.
got in a series of blood games with this absolute enigma. VPIP was 92 over 500 hands in the end. i could not fucking hit a hand and he called with any 2 pre and would call any amount of bullets. i adjusted and tightened up but i probably should have played more aggressively (i.e. overbet/ship turns/rivers instead of firing 60-75% pot flop turn river). the guy was calling me with insane hands and i was definitely on tilt. i got dogged/outdrawn/lost any semblance of a flip but whatever. i'm moaning.
i took a long nap and came on in zen-mode and won 2 shootouts and got a 2nd in one against a very decent player. then took down another 1v1 to finish the day -$52, which is brilliant given i was -$175 at one point today.
i gotta take this more seriously. it's not bad play or running bad or tilt as much as it is lapsing into bad habits like impatience/auto-pilot/underthinking hands.
life story
here's a graph. check out my luck adjusted winnings haha. love HU.

running bad:
i've got a tilt problem. ladies and gents. i'm +$10 and clocked in a stupid amount of hours. i got 'the mental game of poker' and i've got to really digest it and get through it. starting a new job monday & travelling to speak at a conference thursday.. it's really frustrating when you get it in over and over and get dogged... as well as that there's a ton of situations where i got it in with dominating hands on a turn where my opponent catches up. eg AK V K2 on a K xx 2 board. i could DEFINITELY be playing better and my mental game/state is pretty bad... today alone i'm +$65 equity-wise but -$90 in real life
anyway... i'm due a break. still on the $15 turbos, sick value to be had there in my humble opinion. i'll be back.

jeez i'm running really really bad. this is august so far:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
i got this:
and it was really helping me but today's session was just insane. one like 1/10 50/50 flips, lost with AK-AQ v Ax to lose games a ton... then there were the beats that don't show up on the graph, like people inexplicably being in hands on the river and making their gutshots/flushes while shamelessly commiting their stacks against monsters w/ no intention of shoving. there is tilt in there, definitely, but there's a reason for it. 15% roi seems like a very long distance to go at this stage. this fucking sucks.
