Introduction and questionsHi all
My names Andy, I'll cut straight to the chase - I worked for a company called autowindscreens in the UK which as some of you may have seen on the news has gone bust without paying any of it's staff. Chesterfield is quite a small town as it is so 500 people going for the same kind of employment is going to make things quite difficult at the moment for alot of people. I used to grind 6 max cash tables for a living about 5 years ago - I never made a killing but managed to have a decent enough life until I got to the point that I needed a break from poker and decided to find a real job.
My friend pointed me in the direction of this site and I feel like it's something I may want to persue - I've got enough money saved to pay my bills for 6 months and have a 2k bankroll - not much I know but desperate times call for desperate measures and all that. I realise I've got alot of studying to do as the game seems to have changed a huge amount from when I used to play but I just wanted peoples thoughts on the current game - do we see it being beatable for he forseeable future? Is cash dead but HUSNG are still alive and well? When I played I used to try and be the best player I could but now I just want to make as much money as possible and support my family as best I can until another job comes up - or if poker goes well maybe I'll be playing this for a few more years to come.
THanks all and take it easy

Given that you have 6 months bills taken care of and are living in a part of the country with relatively cheap cost of living, I say go for it. The HUSNG fish are easily beatable. Just take the time to learn and get back into it. if you ground 6 max cash for a living then you obviously have the right temperament

Welcome to the site Sir, I'm only down the road from you in Sheffield.
Personally, I think we're approaching another poker boom. Another attempt has been made to regulate online poker in the US, once that happens I think it'll open the floodgates to more fish & even more profits.

I almost posted the other day, that I have been playing a lot more americans of late, than were about previously. I know they haven't changed anything yet, or at least I think, there has definitely been an increase though. They are itching to get back in.
I'm not sure where I stand on all of that stuff. The last thing we want is poker reclassifying as something other than gambling. As long as it is gambling, they can't touch our winnings, soon as it is anything else, welcome to the world of paying tax. I'm not expert on these matters though. I don't really over worry about it, what will be , will be.

I keep my ear in on these things from time to time, I know a new bill has been put tithe senate without the 15 month blackout. In terms of UK it has been on the radar of the coalition but not too high up on the agenda.

Well yeah, nothing ever lasts forever, and I don't expect online poker too either. Or if it does, they will find someway of taking money from us, and that will make the games barely beatable.
*Edit*
The coalition have screwed most things up so far, so I see no reason for this to be any different To be honest, you would think they have more pressing matters right now.

Actually, when you think about it. Making money is at the too of their adgenda given the state of the economy. I'm not actually sure they realise how much tax they could generate should they start to tax online poker, it's not going to cause a massive uproar with the general public so it makes sense for them to press on.
Thank god they haven't!

If they tax online poker, then they would have to tax other forms of gambling, providing Poker is still classed as Gambling, which they have failed to prove otherwise as yet. All though most of the top poker players in the world want it to be seen that it isn't.
We will see, I am sure at some point, something will happen.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys - nice to be on a forum with plenty of UK people! I visit Sheffield pretty much everyday as theres a fantastic MMA gym up there!
I've really got my fingers crossed that we don't start getting taxed on earnings, the game is hard enough to beat as it is without even more of your profits being taken away. Although people who know the game realise it's very much skill based in the long run it as you can lose in any given day, week or month hopefully it will be kept as gambling. I was going to come back awhile ago but I heard all the French players had been ushered onto their own site so thought it sounded like the beginning of the end. BUt this site has really made me think it's possible to start making abit of a living again so I want to give it my best shot. I'll play 1000 5's and see how it goes.

Hello mate welcome to the site nice to have someone else that not only plays poker and is from the UK but is into MMA too
With regards to beating the games it's easy to do as long as you have a solid game plan in place.
I hope you run well.

Awesome! Should be having a fight in June as long as I don't have any injuries upto then
Cheers for doing the site and making so much of the content free, it's really got my mind in gear to start playing again. After I've played my first 1000 and seen how I'm doing and have an idea on what I need to work on I'll be purchasing the four hour course with yourself - seems like a very small price to pay if it helps me beat the $20's and above!
