hu shoot out

has anyone done any excessive samples for hu shoot outs on stars? i had someone prupose and idea to me in regards to 4 man hu shoot outs on stars. telling me they are softer and u get an advantage after u get past the first match as it become deeps stack for the second match. alos being against someone who is generally weaker it is easier to win. he also went on to tell me that if 2 players worked together in  a 4 man shoot out it was legal because they werent culluding. basically they play there matches and if they both got to the second match they would just push all in and then split the winning via money transfer. obv they would both have to win there first match as well as they might end up playing each other the first match and only have one person vs random opponent on the second match with no guarantees to win. he basically told me that it cuts down on the variance as alot of the time we would end up in the second match and just chop it.

my questions are i this legal? i havent asked stars yet as i dont want to get banned or in trouble in any way.i can see his point on this being legal as long as u are not sharring hands and working against an opponent.

has anyone tried this? has anyone played a large sample of these hu shoot outs ? are they weaker then a regular 5 or 10 game?

In theory I dont think this is illegal, after all, in live mtts people take a percentage of each other.

If you are against a single other opponent, you still have to beat them. Its not like 2 people playing together in a sit n go where you squeeze other players off, or tell each other your cards.

The only sticking point would be the 50/50 percentage as far as I can see. If you took say 25% of each other it might get around this issue?

I haven't played too many of them, but the logic that they are deepstacked is incorrect IIRC. stacks are 3000, but blinds start at 20/40 so still 75BB starting stacks.

Also, I know Stars tightened up on team play in the 4mans after cvomplaints came in from casual players. Stars acknowledge that no advantage is gained but don't allow it.

yep you can't team on 4 mans anymore - they will ban you if you do Sad

however the high stakes pros still do it by making the second game stretch out for a decent amount of hands so its hard for software to detect the couding also they can claim coz its high stakes that its hard not to bump into the same people.

But it is teknicly a ban able offence now so be carful if you do do it. Also however this person is there right about it lowerring verenice etc Very Happy

thanks

just seemed like an illegal thing that i know had been talked about before. i am like to play 1 on 1 i dislike the teaming up business. ii have played a few of these shoot outs and won both of them but it was like playing a normal 5 dollar hu game.

i play shootouts exclusively. I'm only at the 2's and 5's but I've played about 650 of these, so that's 1300 games roughly.

The main reason I play them is because they payoff big 3:1, but the rake is sooo much lower as well.

The skill level isn't going to be any different, you just have to win 2 games in a row (which if you're playing 2mans, you have to do to win anyways).

The only tough part is that you can go on larger downswings since you might play 6 games and win the first match but lose the second, so you're down 6 buy ins when if you were playing 2mans you would be even (minus rake).

At stakes like 2's 5's and maybe even 10's I don't see a faster way to build up a roll than playing 4mans alone.

what about on full tilt poker? Is it ok to 2man these 4man tourneys on there or is it the same as stars?
BetMagicMoney

i think its still ok to 4man in teams becasue fulltilt has brought down the ban hammer (i think) so in theory you could do it on fulltilt
icemanv6

what's the ban hammer? or basically what do u mean its still ok because they've bought down the ban hammer?

It is illegal if u flip in the first round, if u play it out "normally" then no1 complains about u.  Stars had to make it illegal because the majority of their player pool is the casual gambler, no advantage is gained by either party, in fact your hourly is lower if u team up.

So don't flip in first or second round, obv  this leads to greater collusion because the better player, or player who is running better can be sent thru to the 2nd round easily, but if no1 complains then you are in the clear.

Also they don't ban u, they give u one warning - then the next time they disallow u and ur partner to register in the same 4man (with a threat that if u do it again u will get suspended from play), then if u get suspended they ban u.  I personally have been threatened with suspension because i just continued to flip.

Cliffs:  Don't flip, lose $ in terms of hourly, profit (but slightly less), rinse and repeat.
