Fsansana - stop being a volume nit!!!!Hello all
I’ve been reading the bankroll threads for awhile now and decided it was time to start my own.
This will be long so you can just skip it if you like
For those that don’t know me (I’m not very active at the forums) I’m Fsansana, I’ve been playing HU for a while now and as a big part of this forum, I’ve attended Brokerstar’s course. All I have to say about Broker is that he is amazing. He has a natural ability to teach and he will make wonders to your game. Even if you don’t like his style (Broker you are a nit Sir ) the base foundations as a poker player, player read ability and his game system will help you for sure.
So I’ve been mainly playing 4 man HU on stars and I’ve done well for the past few months.
Here are my global (HU) stats until now:
Before you all start saying I’m a nit, that I shouldn’t be playing the 11$ for so long, let me just “try” to explain myself. I can only justify to my wife the amount of time I spend playing, watching vids and reading forums, if we can gain something from it. So, from time to time, I’ve had to “show” her that I’m really making some money (not much yet) and spend some of my roll with our little wishes. My plan was to do not withdraw anymore until I could stop for a while at a stake that could allow me to start making some “real” money. Unfortunately, my pc broke down and there goes my plan down the drain. So back to the 11$ again.
The past few weeks I’ve been trying out the 23$ and things are not going as planed. I’m a volume nit and I’m always playing scared with the possibility of loosing all that I’ve made before. This is just plain stupid, I know that volume is everything and that variance will eventually turn things around, but it really sucks when you are not getting the results you expected. I though that I could face a small increase in villain’s abilities but I find this transition much harder than I expected.
Have you felt this difficulty as well or am I just leveling myself??
Here are my stats for 11$ and 23$ 4 man shootouts (global and this year):
Global - 4 man:
2011 - 4 man:
So in order to increase my volume and to have a place to post hands, discuss strat and just whine when a fish calls 3 streets with a gutshoot and gets there, I decided to create this thread and commit myself to update this frequently (at least once per week).
The part of having some place to discuss things with someone is very important, since that I don’t have any poker friends (HU players) that I can talk strat and I believe that by now I should have a bunch load…I’m a internet social nit
So if you want just add me on skype:
francisco.sansana
So the plan now is to continue grinding 23$ 4 man HU with my current roll (roughly 30 buy-ins) and see how it goes from there (go down one level if it gets to 500$). Will not make any goals or define objectives, just play good solid poker, have fun and make mirrions!!!
And would like very much your opinions in this thread!!
[x] Brag: I’ve managed to beat the crazy timebanking poker boots that play NBI and earn a SharkScope leaderboard star
[x] Beat: It’s only for the average profit (last 500 games) in the 5-15$ level
[x] Variance: If I play more in the 11$ level I will probably lose my start since that I have a very good starting sequence at my last 500 games…

I'm not sure about the games being that much harder but one thing that is for sure is that i'll never get tired of seeing student graphs like those!!!

One thing for sure...thats all your fault!!!
I will get a few more games and we will see it from there.

Sick sick sick graphs!
One thing I did to stop my parents from freaking out when I played poker was to cash out a couple times and let the checks hang around a little bit (so they see them). That worked better than any other attempt to convince them (analogy: why blackjack is not on TV, probability calculations: why I try to not make -ev plays, risk of ruin calculations that they never understood, etc.) Some people really are $-oriented.
Best of luck, keep crushing.

That's really great stuff mate, you should be proud of yourself.
Don't worry to much about being a nit, it's far better than the opposite, and always will be. I think you are ready to take on higher though now, you wont have any problems , I am almost certain of it.
One thing I have always been lucky with, is the support of my partner, she really does back me in everything that I do, and it is such a help. I even moan to her when I have a bad day, and she just says " You'll win it back tomorrow, you always do"
Go get it, you can go as far as you want to mate.
Good Luck

My wife already knows a bit about poker...lolol
The other day she saw me going to have a smoke with a sad face and she asked me:
" Did he called with a flush draw?"
Could not stop laughing!
@Chiptaker: Don't be jealous about the star. It means nothing and I should lose it pretty quickly, since that I don't intent to play 11$ soon
Thank you all for the kind works

First updateHello
So this is my first update to my thread.
Until now, things are not looking much promising for me at the 23$’s. The variance is killing me and I feel that this is affecting my confidence a bit. After running very well at the 11$ I don’t seem to find the required momentum to get of this breakeven stretch.
Here are my stats at the 23$’s for this month:
Not a bit sample size yet, but quite far from my objectives. In my last experience in this level, my main difficulty was to finish the second game, now I’m having a lot of difficulty to get to the final game…
I’m also having some strange swings, and this is what is quite disturbing. I can have a 100$+ day and the day after have a -100$ day, just as easily. Saturday started with an 8 buy-ins upswing and finished with a 3 buy-ins lost…this kind of 10/12 buy-ins swings just makes me mad…
So in order to get out of this downward mental spiral I’ve decided that I needed a change of landscape. So I’m switching to FT for a while. I always have a lot of fun playing the FT turbos, but since that I want to get away from variance I will probably go to the reg speed games or if I’m in the mood for it, to the deep stack games.
Will probably start by a few games on the 11$ and see how things go from there.
Will update this as soon as anything else interesting happens.
Just a final note: I f***ing hate to play at the weekends. I don’t know why, but I just can’t beat the regular fish. Definitely not a +EV move for me to play at weekends…as opposite to the large majority of you guys…

Hi
Time to make an update on my itinerary towards the first mirrion…
Things aren’t looking very bright at the 23$. Don’t really know what is happening, but unfortunately haven’t been able to improve my results. Made a switch to FT for a while, just to clear my mind and play some games more for fun (FT software relaxes me a lot lol) but it was time to get back to business as usual and try to crush the 4 man’s back at Stars.
Don’t really think that I’m finding a big difference in the player pool, obviously there are differences, I don’t come across with a complete spewtard that often, but I’ve never played against a player that could really crush my soul. The competition is harder (as expected) but not unbeatable. Unfortunately, my results don’t reflect this. I still have a ton of leaks that I’ve not been able to plug, and that can really be reflected in my nerve-racking jumping breakeven line…
The other day I realized that there are some strange things with my results…I have a negative ROI while one-tabling but a very good ROI while two-tabling.
You can compare the multi-tabling stats at 11$ and at 23$ (since 1st January) :
11$ - 4 man
23$ - 4 man
Ok, lol@samplesize but that reflects a lot of what is crossing my mind. I’ve noticed that I’m not fully confidant in my game, and that loosing 3 or 4 buy-ins have a huge impact on my state of mind and eventually on my game. In this moments I try to minimize losses, bring back my A game. Felling that you are completely running the other guy over and that you end up loosing the game on a 3 outer, just kills my motivation. I believe that this is completely related with my bankroll and with the fact that I’m totally and I repeat totally results oriented. And this continues to be my major leak. I just can’t see the big picture.
Maybe I should plan some coaching or just a few HH reviews to see if someone can give an outside opinion and put me back on track.
SO…time to get a step down. Lets crush the 11$ again and when I have a huge roll, then I will be trying the 23$ again.
Brag: I can teach you how to two-tabling the 23$
Beat: I need someone that can teach me how to one-tabling the 23$....

hey man, as always very impressive results i won't worry to much, i was always under the impression that 4man ROIs wern't that much higher than 2 mans so the fact that you have some very decent ROIs is impressive! i'd say your biggest leak is volume (im the same) as swings in 4 mans can be much bigger!
With that said i'd say your more than capable of beating the 20s
so GL @ the tables

Hey man.
Nice to see those stats, I'm sure you're fit for the $23's, while probably just leveling yourself.
I just got back, so, as promised, let's talk this weekend?
Take care and keep grinding it out.
All the best,
D.

Yeah mate...I'll take a few days off...just to clear my mind. I know I'm not playing perfectly but still, the past few weeks, this has been just disgusting.
This month (mostly 11$)
Time to watch somes vids, review the notes from your classes and comeback with some sort of challenge, otherwise I don't know if I can keep playing at 11$ with enough motivation...
Thanks broker

Any advice about how to deal with this...

this is brutal mate - i'd say at this point it might be worth getting some HH reviews done by some people, also maybe taking a step back and having abreak for a week or so.

I think that I will take a few days off again...
I think that I need some coaching or something on those lines. Maybe I try to find some deal with someone for coaching with profit sharing.
Thanks mate
