floating/chasing

some call it floating, some call it chasing

what the difference?

am i floating the flop with the nut draws? or great draws?

or is that chasing?

is chasing going after flush's or straights that are not the nuts?

or am i just confused altogethor?

these questions are coming from the ring game side of me... but i dont think it matters....   (buuuurp... ahhhh! good ol' homebrew)

chasing just means that your calling to the river and hoping to hit your draw.

If your floating you have a draw and overcards maybe and your calling with good equity but your happy to try to steal the pot later in the hand even if you miss.

so kind of the same but not quite. At least this is my interpritation.

You don't need to have a draw, or anything at all in fact to float, just means you are going to try and steal the pot on another street.

Don't do it out of position though, you will burn money. I know some very good players do it, but It is really difficult to know where you are in the hand.

yer blazings right floating just asumes your calling to take the pot away later in the hand.

I find a nice spot to float is if your opponent gives up on the turn alot after you call the flop so you can bet and get alot of folds
