Fish reaching 100 posts !!

Assuming you have a precise plan that you are comfortable applying against each poker player type.
Such as you'd have if you had taken Brokerstars course and studied it thoroughly.

Lets say we divide a typical match in 3 parts.
1) The fact finding stage
2) The making assumptions stage
3) The clear strategy stage

So in the third stage you would have a pretty well devised plan that can guide you to a victory. You still have to remain alert and look for more spots to exploit or notice changes in your opponents game but you will have a clear cut path in your game strategy.

Now in the first and second stage your main goal should be reaching the third stage by minimizing loses right?

So my question is what is your plan in the first 2 stages?

For the fact finding stage: In the first hands of the match when you are read-less what opening ranges do you use what do you bet on top pairs, mid pairs, flopped flushes IP OOP?

For the second stage : What strategies do you apply after what hints to reach more clear reads (e.g. 3 betting pre because the guy looks TAGish and you want to see how he will react).
What hands do you apply these with (e.g. I like to raise OOP on the flop to find out what a certain bet means with a flush draw or  on a paired board with 2 overs, or...)

Pretty big answer required, I know..

Maybe Brokerstar will think it's a good idea for a video and make it my gift for my 100th post  Wink

In the first 2 stages you have your standard game. Some people call it ABC poker.

For me my standard game is to minraise every button, play tight OOP and generally look to play very "standard" betting when I hit, or when the board is great for c-betting (like A24 w/J7o) barreling great turns like A24 K but generally not look to get out of line or anything yet.

What step 3 means is just we take the information we have gathered so far and adjust versus our villain.

One of my most common adjustments are: "Holy shit this guy is calling every minraise" - The response to that is pretty intuitive, just tighten up your opening range and go to 2,5x or 3x.

Another example: The guy folds every hand oop -> we open every hand IP for a minraise.

Another example: The guy floats too much on flops - Cbet bad boards less, barrel good turn cards more.

You never want to raise for information - This is just plain bad. Information has to be a by-product of the bet or raise's original intent. If we use your example with the flushdraw and checkraising OOP we are actually not raising for information at all.

If we c/r and he calls, what information does that provide? If he shoves, what information did we gain?

Basically you C/r with a fd on boards he's unlikely to have hit hard because it's hard to c/c with draws and make a ton of money (very obvious when the flush hits and you bet) so we pwn souls by c/r with strong draws AND strong made hands. Your ultimate equity is made up of hand equity+fold equity so if hand equity is slightly lacking (naked fd is almost always a dog going all-in on a flop, unless all in against a worse flushdraw) you more than make up for it in fold equity.

He can also call your c/r where we then just bomb most turns and make him fold there, or we can make our hand and valuebet.

Hope that made sense.
