Dave's' Bank Roll BuildHi Guys,
Thought I would start this to help keep me focused and to track my progress through my training.
I've recently started Broker's condensed course and this evening had the game review. I have been given a tonne of very helpful information, now all I need to do is study, understand and apply it. Simple huh!
I have also signed up to the Pokerstars.fr deal as I like the idea of more game reviews but am too tight too pay for them
My goals for the next month are :-
1) Study the extra material I've been given (that means pay attention and make notes)
2) Play 200-300 games at the 5 Euro stakes
3) Move up to the 10 Euro stakes if bankroll permits.
4) Watch 1 Video a week.
5) Post in the forum, I never do this, but with so many good players willing to offer advice i'd be stupid not to!
Now time for my first graph. These games were played after studying the condensed course but prior to the game review.

So I am now armed with the advice from the game review and a couple of bonus videos i wasn't expecting (thanks Broker ), hopefully i'll start cutting out some of my leaks and see this graph continue to climb.

Nice start man and I'm glad you liked the videos that you have had so far.
With all of the leaks we plugged I'm certain you'll be even more of a force for these low stakes fish and will climb the stakes really quickly.
Now get some games in and I'll look forward to our next 1-1 session.

UpdateTime for a brief update.
These 50 + games were played after studying Brokers 2 videos on end game play. I have found these very useful and my approach to end game play has changed fairly drastically. The results have been positive so far.
Still so much work to do, but i'll keep plugging away and hopefully more will sink in.

UpdateI have now completed 200 games, which is great as that was one of my targets.
These last 50 games were a lesson in humility. After going so well previously I started a session full of (over) confidence. Did not bother to look at my notes, and playing each hand without really thinking. Needless to say this did not end well.
I finally realized I was not a poker genius and I actually have to work to win games and went back to my routine.
This was going better until the poker gods felt i needed another lesson.
I induced (or so i thought) an aggressive player to go all-in while i was sitting on a full house. Fist pumping the air and taunting the french fool, my happiness was short lived as he turned quads.
This same player then called my all-in the following game when i had a set, further taunting followed only for him to hit runner runner for a straight.
I then lost another 3 buy-ins in a massive tilting rage.
Despite all that i did manage to break even since my last update so I should be happy, just need to learn from this experience, approach each session properly prepared, calm down when things go wrong (it is only a game) and stop taunting the french... Well i'll aim for two out of three.

It's been a slow week this week, I haven't got in much volume as I managed to write off my car and computer on the same day. It's ok though as I took the responsible approach to my troubles and spent the weekend getting drunk.
I have however played a few games on my laptop and have hit my Bank Roll target for moving up to the 10 Euro games.
For some reason I am reluctant to make this move as I am conscious that I am still making lots of mistakes. I may be able to get away with this at the 5 Euro tables but am concerned i'll get punished more at the 10's.

Hey mate, you're heading in the right direction....have a shot.
If you are a little unsure about it, make sure you are prepared to drop down using whatever BRM you have in place. Worse case, and you hit some variance or whatever, you just grind back up again and have another shot.

UpdateTook my first shot at the 10 euro games this week, it started off OK until I hit a horrible run getting it in 70-30 or better and watching those cards miraculously appear on the river time and again.
I know many of you have been there and it is completely normal to have a run of these, but it is so hard to accept calmly.
Ironically whilst feeling sorry for myself I figured I'd give their method a shot and won a couple of games chasing the lucky card on the river.
On a positive note I did drop down to the 5's as intended which is very unlike me, I am more likely to go up to the 20's to try and make back what I've lost.
I am grinding back up and am almost back up to having another shot at the 10's, hopefully a few of my hands will hold this time.

That little downswing you have is what happened to me. It took me 7 days of grinding the 10s to win what I lost in 2 days playing the 20s. I was losing 70/30 and 80/20 flips all over the place.
Very well done for having the self discipline to move down instead of up! Not many can do that when they have that urge to chase losses.

Thanks for the encouraging posts guys, after winning 6 in a row I had the roll to move up again to the 10's.
Unfortunately the same thing happened again, 3 long shots hit on the river followed by 2 tight games which could have gone either way. As I'm using a 30/25 bank roll this means I'm back at the 5's.
Feeling pretty tilted right now.

3rd time lucky? After a frustrating grind I am back up ready to have my third shot at the 10 Euro games, I don't find the players any better at this level but they certainly seem luckier. I have played 2 games so far, the first game I won easily, the 2nd I got all-in ahead no less than 6 times before I finally lost the game.
I'm starting to get a bit paranoid playing at this level, surely my hands will start holding soon!

UpdateI've been a bit lax updating this, have had mixed success in the last couple of weeks.
I had a good session with Broker when I was feeling very frustrated and low. (around the 440 game mark)
Think I have managed to apply some of what he taught me and results have picked up.
I also read a very good article on variance, how to recognise it and not to automatically blame it for a bad run of results. It also gave advice on how to deal with it.
I had a good opportunity to put this to the test today as although I managed to get it all-in today 4 times with aces, I lost all four.
This would ordinarily have me shouting at the unfairness of poker and how I am the unluckiest player alive etc etc, instead I smiled and moved on. I am sure this new attitude enabled me to finish the day slightly up instead of spewing more buy-ins.

Thanks

just reading your thread from start to finish you have improved so much when it comes to tilt and variance. I am glad to hear u turned your biggest weakness into a strength. We all struggle with tilt but its how you play after the 4th time losing with aces. Keep your head up always review and work on your game and know what to look for when you know u are tiliting to avoid playing your c or d game. Add me on skype if u ever need anything. Its great to see someone doing so well in such a short amount of time.
Look out 20's cauz here u come

Not able to play too many games this week as had other commitments.
Did manage to join a coaching session with Iceman/littlefish/fsansana, we had a few technical issues but was still useful and i'm looking forward to more of these.
Am very pleased with my mental approach, there were a couple of occasions that could have tilted me but I continued to remain calm and focus on the next hand/game.
@deucehigh I did try to find the article I referred to earlier but I haven't been able to, I will keep an eye out for it.

SwingsWell I've been having an interesting time of it over the last week or so. Was getting fed up with a swingy graph and decided to go back over Brokers course.
It felt good going over this a 2nd time and this time I have been taking one aspect at a time and trying to apply it properly to my game.
Despite this I did have one period yesterday when I almost cashed out, I had a small session of 5 games where I had got it in as a monster favourite and lost all of them.
Thankfully I pulled myself together and came back today as I had one of my better days. A profit of $175 will seem small to many of you, but for me it felt good . So this is what it feels like when your hands hold and occasionally you get to suck out on someone else.... I like it.
