THE CDM 2012 POKERSTARS.FR MEGA-THREAD!!!!!!!!

You already know what is it folks.  In '11 I milked out a few grand playing on Stars.fr.  I ran bad... I played bad... And I average 5% ROI at tiny stakes and therefore made around $1 per game for my trouble.  In '12, I don't *hope* things will be different.... I ALREADY KNOW IT!

The place that poker currently has in my life is that I'll be using a good chunk of my BR to pay rent/expenses monthly.  My 2012 build is going to feature a monthly withdrawal and I'm 99% I'll use a 30BI type rule (i.e. €300-€10, €600-€20, etc..), however I might opt to go more or less aggressive as the year goes on.  I'm extremely confident in my game right now and I found myself recently clowning people as low as €10 to now game selecting the €50s.  Let's get to the goals:

- 600 games minimum monthly!

- Goldstar minimum (platinum star if possible)!

- AND A SPECIAL TREAT: CDM's LOWSTAKES MEGAVIDEOS.  Watch as the infamous Irishman crushes the soul's of arrogant French microstakers.  Learn the goto chatbox insults ("ta mere boit de la kro", "connard", and much much more!!!).  Understand how to run better when flipping.  Tilt control! Demolishing low stakes LP by deploying CDM's patented triple barrel w/ river shove!!!! All as a special gift to Tagpoker, 1 video a month MINIMUM!!!!!

I've clocked in 0 volume this month, and the games I did play I ran/played bad in.  What's my excuse? THERE IS NO EXCUSE.  I've been lazilly sitting the odd €10-€30 and not doing great.  However, I've finally found a new place to move into... and it's struck me that the first thing I'll need to buy is one of the most bare, basic, 21st century man NECESSITIES.......................

CDM'S 2012 POKER MEGA CHALLENGES #1: A TELEVISION SET IN 6 DAYS PLAYING €10s



Now, your average person has to dip into their work money or their life savings or *shudder* even hire purchase a TV.  Luckilly, I'm a Tagpoker LEGEND who can clock in a bare basic bit of volume, take some money off the donks at Pokerstars.fr, and then frisbee to the main in the uniform at my nearest Powercity, wheel a TV through the door just in time to catch UFC 143: Diaz vs Condit!  I know most of you are reading this thread and you're probably saying "But CDM, you've played as high as €100, it won't take you long to win a TV! This isn't a *real* challenge!!!"  Well my friends, just for you and YOU ALONE, TAGPOKER, I will be playing *EXCLUSIVELY* €10S!  "BUT CDM!!!!" You say, "You're a mid stakes master capable of getting an hourly that's around the COST of a TV!!!! With your schedule how are you going to get in enough volume in 6 days to be +60 buyins by the end of the week?"  Firstly, you're too kind, Tagpoker....  Secondly, I not only PROMISE I'LL MAKE 60 BUYINS *OR MORE* AT €10 THIS WEEK, I'LL BE RECORDING IT IT JUST AS A SPECIAL TREAT TO TAGPOKER.CO.UK!!!!!  The reason I'm doing this challenge is the following:

- I want to show that a good, healthy, HUGE ROI is possible at even the most mundane of stakes versus the most inhuman of players
- This ROI is MAINTAINABLE if you focus on being in the moment, always endeavouring to play your a-game in each individual moment of each individual hand.
- That even if you don't have huge aspirations in poker, if you sharpen up your game you can net enough in a week of CASUAL playing to fund purchases like TVs... Motorbikes... Cars... ETC
- That I am a baller
- To begin my "CDM's MEGAVIDEO Series 2012"
- *Most importantly*: if you find a specific poker 'level' too BORING or mundane, it's a sign you're in a HURRY TO WIN MONEY.... If you're in a hurry in GENERAL in poker you're going to cost yourself DORRAHS! BIG TIME DORRAHS!  

Finally, I'd actually like to ask for a bit of help.  As I said my budget will be €600 (probably more though), I watch a little bit of sports and some movies, not much else.  What should I be buying?  Is plasma good?  I really am clueless.

OK!!! So I wrapped up work today and dived onto the filthy degen €10 shootout tables.  I actually ran like dogshit for the first 10 particularly on final tables... One genius managed to get it in 3bet shoving light around 4 times, mostly like with bad jacks or queens like 15 bbs eff., but one egregiously bad shove was K9o vs my AK after i minraised pre.  The power of the minraise in endgame play against a variety of opponents is something every low-stake player should know about.  Anyhow, despite that setback I went to smash and got a decent ROI + hourly!

so we wrapped up a ton of stuff last night in work but i STILL have to put in an extra 1/2 day over the weekend.  to blow it out i played a set of friends in a home game and bluffed off my stack to them for about 15 rebuys.  

then we went out and this YOUNG RUFFIAN kept dancing up to my crew bumping into us looking for trouble. around the 4th time he came over he did this disgusting fucking move where he deliberately tickled my dick which of course set me off.  i shoved the guy across the room and smashed my drink at his feet.  he responded by quickly punching me in the face.  he got his punch in just as 6/7 of his mates grabbed him and made him inaccessible.  

like a complete failure though he didn't even break my nose but it was "gg" for the night as i was bleeding like a stuffed pig.  my own fault, tbh, he was looking for a fight all night and i obliged with my hands down.

i'm so so so sorry to all of you. i got hundreds of tweets, PMs, facebook comments, emails from all around the world of people urging me on during this challenge... but i chose the wrong time to do it.

is +€600 @ 10 possible in 6 days?  hell yeah. but i chose the worst possible time ever. i was doing 12 hour days in work and the one day i had a free day to play i was tilting from being punched in the nose the night before.

don't worry, i'm still here & i'll still complete this meager challenge.... but unfortunately for now, the achievement isn't as heroic as it could have been.

incidentally, i talked about 'forcing the game' and 'sitting down to make a certain amount of money' and how that was bad in my original post... yet i then went on to try and do a challenge that relied entirely on having free time + running well.  in other words: i was contradicting myself.  

don't worry guys, i'll be back, just gimme a couple of days.

so much stuff is happening on tagpoker, i'm sick i'm missing it all... i've finally got sorted in my place... the first few weeks featured wild parties, long poker nights, and my attempts to work at my new desk which is kind of uncomfortable.  oh, and i racked up 4 notches since getting in - you kids know what's up.

but for real, last night i sat and finally played some actual decent poker.  i made a couple of wrong moves, but i was definitely in a more 'manic' mindset with my playing earlier - trying to cram a huge amount of volume in over a short period.  but hey. it is what it is.  as for challenge #1?  i didn't exactly smash it, but hey... i did opt to bang out a nice 40" LCD tv:

Here's 2012 so far.  As I've already explained, I was either playing high variance or bad or just not trying and getting in poor volume.  I was flailing trying to snap make a ton of cash at low stakes while simultaneously not respecting my opponents in any way shape or form.

I might do a detailed post on this as I think a lot of you can relate to auto-piloting or just not committing properly to your game as you should.  As you can see, towards the end I reined everything in and started playing properly (and running good?? ).  I'll stick with the 10s for the time being but I'm already thinking of my next BR challenge/build.  Stay tuned kids!

it's slow work & i'm not getting in mega-volume...  remembering all the stuff i'd forgotten about HU poker during this crazy latest period of my life.  everything's been so hectic... i'd be relying so much on poker & good variance i'd forgotten how to play poker the proper way: playing each individual street of each individual hand in as +EV as possible & playing for volume, not for daily € quotas.

i only played 16 games tonight but i'm knocking off.  looking forward to diving onto the shootouts at 10 tomorrow. all going well i'll be taking shots at the €20s by the weekend.

errrr i just noticed something.  i decided to check my year to date states and found i was running at exactly half my EV so far.  i'm +1200e EV but +600e....

my avg buyin is 10e so i'm toughly 60 buyins below ev.... does that make sense? yes it does.  also. i'm FAIRLY sure my version of HEM computes my shootout results incorrectly... so while i could rail against it and say I'M RUNNING SO FAR BELOW EV i need to remember that can work both ways (i.e. i could be getting mega lucky in shootouts and it could be fucking up).  BUT ANYWAY.......

mindbendingly bad run at the 10s.  obv i still smashed but yesterday featured something like 6+ final table 2nd places due to either losing a dominating flip, destroying a guy over 50 hands then losing 2 flips in a row for the loss, or 4:1 shots.  whatever.  

i'm playing v good now.  finally stepped up and started playing my (low) A game again.  hopefully i can stick through this.  back in the zen mindset in thinking of volume vs results as opposed to quotas.  not letting the bad variance influence my play.  making some crazy crazy value plays in spots where a tilting/superstitious player would definitely jam or overbet to 'protect' his hand (where the better hand is far better than the opponent's).  

life story.  getting there though.  long weekend now, so fingers crossed i can get in some serious volume.  splashed out on some nice speakers and other stuff this month so i might need to dip into the BR (i'm a degen, i know)

had a war with a 2k loser (in over 100 games) just there at €10.  i tilted and spewed but i still won 3 buyins off him.  he snap accepted every rematch, raised close to 100%, 3b such monsters as 92o, 26s, Q3o, and was hitting incredibly often.  also he had this amazing way of NEVER FOLDING ANY PAIR POSTFLOP.  once i twigged that i raped him mercilessly.  in around 12 games or so, he snap accepted a rematch after every one.  he said 2 things in a chatbox i spammed vigorously.  they were:

1) solid call

2) i will always accept your rematch

after brutally raping him in 3 hands straight for all the loot in the first level, this jabroni dwelled and declined the rematch.

What is the crack with signing up for Stars.FR. I heard you have to send them docs, then wait for a letter through the post, and all kinds of nonsense, before you can play real money games. Is this true ?

as i recall you sign up and deposit and then you have a set period of time in which you can activate your account with an AVN i think they call it which they send by post.  it's like 40 days or something and if you don't activate it within that time they suspend your account.

you can play right from the off but you just can't do things like withdraw without inputting the code.

kayyyy. so... 1500 vpps in, i think i'm up 100 or so?  have to say, the variance is a kick in the bollocks in these hypers.  i've definitely got a few major leaks like postflop lines v LPs and my TP button play.  i decimate the tags and lags with relative ease tho. life story.

just cracked 2k for the year. tbh, i know i talk a lot of shit but it's a bit of a joke that i'm only hitting 2k now given the amount of time i've put in + the skill/training i've received over my time in poker.  i attribute my slow crawl to poor br management & lack of concentration when i'm playing - i'm learning not play when i'm only capable of autopiloting.

ANYWAY.

this hyper thing is nuts.  i'm spending too much time playing & not enough time studying.  that's because of the silly demands i've put on myself, but whatever, i threw down the gauntlet - i'm going to achieve platinum this month.  it's kind of a dumb goal.  achieving a certain level should be more of a side effect from playing certain stakes/a certain amount of time rather than forcing yourself to clock in a shitload of volume.  but whatever, i'm getting there.  should just about make my platinum star and fingers crossed i can continue on the little heater i'm on.

when i 4 table it becomes much more high variance.  when i single table i rape/pillage, but it's v tilting to play slow opponents at hyper.  basically wish i could mutlitable better.  next goal needs to be about me moving up in stakes.  but ey.  gg.  ramble over.

i think the biggest spot i'm running into is getting it in with small/medium pairs pre vs. limp calling retards.  i should probably be checking 55 back oop versus guys that don't raise their buttons.  so sick when they dwell for 10 seconds and limp, i snap punish with my 88 or whatever & they ship over it, or worse minraise my punish w/ AA or whatever.

If you play hypers there's no reason to play on pokerstars.fr- there are plenty of fish on the main site and the rake is lower I think.
