building bankroll from 100 dollars to 3kHi there everyone...this is my first post on any poker forum
I have decided to try and build a bankroll from 100 dollars that i placed on FT and build it to 3k playing SNG...My Bank roll mang goes as follows....
(Please note i am a student who is his last semester of school and is currently student teaching so i planned on playing only about 20 games a week; one game at a time)
below $75 move down to 3 dollar
100-600 $5
500-1500 $10
1500-3000 $20
3000+ Start multi tabling 20 dollar SNG
Im writing because in my first 15 games i doubled my buy-in and was on the charge and rate of winning that i thought was possible for my skill at the 5 dollar limit...But in the last 25 games I have broken dead even staying within a $20 dollar range...I am not going to say I havent tilted a little and had a few bad beats....(i.e. Lose with aces first aces all money in pre flop...lose with aces first aces king....set over set twice in one day)
And I have made some bad decisions...I am just getting really discouraged as of late...And i understand variance and that this is possible and could be perfectly normal...I guess im just writing for someone to tell me something positive or something i could do better...

Hey man,
Welcome to the site.
Are you playing HUSNGs?? Your BRM seems super conservative if you are.

nah playing full ring sng....if u have input on my br mang let me know

Full ring I'm clueless tbh! I just saw you waiting till 50 BIs for what I thought was HUSNG & thought that was a touch conservative.
Only resource of info I can think of is Jennifears BRM blog post; http://www.pocketfives.com/f7/sng...ll-management-chart-guide-378221/

Great beginners pdf, which you can download as well, makes easier reading! Got me winning the micros and from there I moved on to HU to sharpen my skill! Turns out I loved the HU! Never looked back!
p.s You may find you'll lean towards loosening up your BR management after you've played for a month or two because you'll quickly experience that at 20 games per week its going to take you a very long time to achieve you final goal. Always be flexible enough to adjust/tweak your goals to suit your new needs at a later date.

Maybe i was wrong about how much i could winAfter i posted last time i really wanted to get back to winning. But maybe i was being unrealistic about how much i could win(Which may have tilted me some). Even if it was at only a 5 dollar SNG full ring.
My original hopeful thinking was for every game I played I would win the same amount of money I put in. So I had hoped that after playing 100 games I would have profited 500 dollars....Does this at all seem possible for anyone?
Anyway I reevaluated what I could realistically make after figuring what I think my skill level is and the fact that I still make mistakes that I consider to be huge. I am not yet at the point where 99% of my plays are solid...So I know i am losing equity at the moment that I will later make up (if/when i stop making these mistakes) for when I start moving to the higher levels.
Okay so here it is. I figured that for every 5 dollar tournament I entered I could win 2.50 and for over the 55 games I have played I have won $147...
That does not include the 20 dollar sign up bonus i got at Full tilt and the $11 dollar rakeback i got so far. My starting bankroll of $110 is now at $288 over 55 games...
I have been really busy with my student teaching so have not put in as many games this week as I wanted to, but Ill keep everyone updated
IF ANYONE HAS ANY ADVICE OR ANYTHING GOOD OR BAD TO SAY I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR IT
Thank You

I think 20% is probably pretty high, so for every $10 you buyin with you profit $2
thinking you could attain 100% roi is just insane
10% is probably "good" these days...eg: $1 for every $10 wagered

yer there is no way you can win with 50% ROI - if your getting 10% then your doing awsome

so what does that say about my win rate over 55 games?
Obviously I am playing below my ability level atm until I increase my bankroll, no?
Or is 55 games just not a large enough sample?

55 games is nothing. Come back after 2000 and you will have a better idea where you are at.

About 500 game's will start to give you a pretty good/rough idea where you are I'd say.

there are grinders out there that play 40 tables at a time and can do 200 games in 1 session per day. so 55 is .........

Hi
Good results so far.
I played 9man SNG for just a bit over 2 years, it is possible you run good over 55 games, but its just as likely you will run bad over 55 games. TBH 55 games is a really small sample and not enough games to come to any conclusions about your play.
Play your games, review your sessions, continually work on your game and try not to be too results oriented at this stage.

back to grindingTook some time off from playing online...
well at least SNG...i was really busy the past few weeks and did not have the desire to sit in front of the computer playing 5 dollar SNG... i have been playing some NLHM cash...and started to play PLO, which is a lot of fun(both online)
Over past weeks been playing live cash too...
Anyway...................................
I told myself over the weekend that I was going to start getting really serious about my bankroll growth...(if you didn't read earlier post or don't remember a lot of my time is eaten up because im student teaching)
I figured I could play 60 games a week...playing two tables at a time....I started that today with some poor results that left my desire to get my feet wet, with battle scars
I played 5 games today...with zero cashes...
Cards just didnt go my way today...Hope I get hit so hard with the deck tomorrow i get knocked out(not of the tourny tho )
KEEP EVERYONE UPDATED OVER THE COMING DAYS

To the comment above...i wish i could say i misread my opponents...but sometimes in STT SNG ur going to be forced to play ur cards and ur stack over the other players...
Played 6 games today with mixed results....first I have to say i completely blew a buy-in today...i hate doing that...
Honestly I am not in love with my play lately....not because im not cashing just because im not playing my "A" game...There have been times i knew i sucked out and havent played well and other times I have played well and got sucked out on...either way right now im playing bad
I had 4 games without a cash today
(one i got 4th trying to get a lot more chips....goal is to get first not third so im okay with that)
one third place finish
and one first place finish
Just update... yesterday's start was at 278
Yesterday finish 250.50
Today finish 249

didnt play yesterday...instead played with myself....
Today went okay...I didnt like the way i played my first two games. Im playing to loose early. I kinda got into the mind set of playing cash games. I have to do a better job of separating my cash game style and my STT SNG style; which are night and day of each other . I realize was doing that and fixed it for my 2nd half of my session
Results for day:
3 non cashes
1 3rd
1 2nd
1 1st
Bankroll at 261
(If anyone expresses interest in this blog id like it, it definitely has been motivating to keep updating. Definitely be fun if i knew people kept following my progress)

If i keep playing like i did today i will be back on the winning side soon.
Today's results
4 non cashes (3 fourth place finishes )
1 2nd
1 3rd
Current bankroll 250.5
Down swing continues....Lets see how i deal with it

Before i get into my results for today...
Update on my requirements for moving up in levels has changed
BR >500....5SNG
BR $500....10SNG
BR $1000...20SNG
After i get to $2000 im going to move to cash games 6max deep prob play .25/.50 deep
It should be noted that i play live cash...so i have a background in cash games...
_____________________________________________________________
Today i was really happy with the way i played, If the cards went a little bit more in my favor during races Id be up a lot more...I only had one game where i felt i made a big mistake...Again i think i played pretty solid today...
I had 3 non cashes
1 3rd place
2 1st place
Current BR $271.5

PLAYED 8 games
5 non cashes
1 2nd place

PLAY NO MORE!!!As most of you know ...due to the recent events full tilt is not allowing US players to play. My money is locked up....for now? ....Umm i have moved back to my roots with almost no bankroll...FYI my roots are playing live cash games....but with no bankroll to back me....lucky i have people who want to invest with me...so a 1-3 becomes a .75/1.5....still out of my bankroll but lets hope i run good and can get off on my own soon...
THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST DISCUSSING BANKROLL BUILD
thank you all
