Brokerstar Challenge 3 - HUSNG's

$20 HUSNG's with 30% ROI and 100 buy ins in a month.

Ok so I've done two challenges so far. One went perfectly the other was going well before being de-railed so now for challenge 3.

So this little site of ours started life as a HUSNG site and although branching out into other formats I want this challenge to get back to my strongest game.

There are a few things going on now which has kind of made this challenge come about. Firstly nearly all of my students that have bought my condensed coaching course have gone on to beat the micro games with not too much trouble but for some reason there seem to be a lot of you guys getting stuck in the $20 and $30 games.

Second, because of the fact that people are getting stuck, I am making a new video coaching pack to show how to easily beat these games with perhaps even more focus on specific player reads I spot, how I spot them and then what logical way I can use that information (this is why there will be so many videos in this coaching pack).

People have also been sending me messages recently like do I still think my style will work in todays games? Of course it will so what better way to prove that point than by showing people that you can make $2k a month playing just $20 games using my 'strategy'.

So now to get the ball rolling. I'm going to be playing 4 man shootouts just for something different. I've been playing them the last couple of days and they are fun plus I think I can boost my ROI in them a bit to give me a chance for the highest possible ROI.

I'm going to back date the challenge a couple of days to add some games that I've played to get me off to a good start and finish the challenge on the 6th of next month. (hopefully by then too the video pack will be finished too).

Will be keen to see how many shootouts I actually end up playing.

Wish me luck.

These days I don't take many notes but I will make a point of what notes I'm looking at making and then how I intend to use them to my advantage.

Any other feedback on what you guys want to see on my 'Next Stage' video series then please say as I want to tailor it as much as possible to you guys.

Running Hot

Straight out of the gates and I'm running like Usain Bolt which is always nice.  I've only played about 7 shootouts today as I'm going out to dinner and then to watch the hang over 2.

I may play a few games when I get in later tonight though so it may not be the end of the day just yet but all the same I'll post how I'm getting on.

I'm finding that at this level it does seem to be either extreme fish much like it was in my $50 - $5k roll challenge or players that have half a clue and these guys are the regs.

I have the feeling that some of you guys may be coming unstuck against some of these players but I've found that most of them so far just have a one size fits all game plan and many give away lots of useful tells and patterns.

Lots of the videos will be against regs or agro players in general, that is the point of this video pack to help really crush the players that I suspect people struggle with a bit at this point.

Haha I think even in this format of the game that once my run good calms down it'll be hard to keep the ROI at 30%.

hey, just wanted to wish u good luck and also wanted to thank you, because timing is priceless. I've just started with my very first challenge and probably next month or so i'm moving up to the 20$'s.

I'm such a baby when I run bad!!!

I shouldn't cry about it, I know but I've become a really, really bad loser. I want to publicly say sorry to everyone who I have referred to as a button clicking, mega drooling donkey..

Now in all fairness, when I started, I ran hotter than the sun so I'm due some run bad but even though the money doesn't mean anything to me at this stage I'm shocked at just how badly I take losing right now.

Moral of the story

Heads up really does feel like a personal war and it's so easy to get emotionally involved. I've played for years and the fact that I'm still feeling this means that lots of newer players almost certainly are but what's important is to acknowledge the feeling, accept it, let it go and continue to make the best decisions possible at the time. As long as your choices are sound then the rest just takes are of itself.

I saw a couple of your shootouts during the week when I was taking a break and you were certainly chatty.  Smile  A lot of it was light hearted, you told him it was a bad call when he chased down after a 3bet with AT I think, you told him you'd only call a 3bet with AQ or higher, he said you can't win much then and it went from there.

I thought you were just trying to rile them or talk them out of their game or something. I was surprised how much you chatted during games. You were running hot too, you won the shootouts I saw.

I do use chat sometimes but I often prefer being nice to people as I find they end up playing much more honestly for you. Unless of course it was one player in particular that I keep playing who called me a fish once and I've been a bit of a git to ever since.  Twisted Evil

Not too productive but winning all the same

So the weekend has derailed me slightly as a friend of mine arrived from Canada and we decided to party out of control. After god knows how much Whiskey, setting off fire works, greasy burgers and feeling like hell I have played a few games and although it's not been too productive on a volume level as the famous saying goes, 'winnings, winning'.

Note to self: Play more volume this coming week!!!!!!

you get points for each game you play  i think you get about 3 points for the win  and 2 for 2nd 1/2 point for 3 and 4  but you might want to check that

i normally get 2 points for the win in a std husng  and 1/2 point for 2nd

you get prizes from fulltilt if you finish the month high on the board
so top of leader board may not mean a good player  just high volume  but obviously the good players would more likely be at the top too

Back On Track

Ok when I say I'm back on track I mean I actually played a few games today and made about five buyins.

Most of the guys I'm coming up against are fairly aggressive which means I'm getting some good footage for the new video pack. I'm really focusing on the note taking side of things as that's what people are interested in and also talking about my turn and river plans before we get to those streets depending on the kind of cards that come off. I think far too many bad to 'ok players' are just firing out bets without enough consideration for the board texture and what they will do on varying cards for future streets.

Only a few games today as Mondays are BJJ day

I only played a few games today as I train twice on a Monday which means I'm too shattered to even lift my head off of the couch. Played a few OK players today which I recorded for the video pack and there are lots of cool reads that I pick up and use in game.

Tomorrow will be a bigger day and I hope to punch in a load of games to push up to the 50 buy in mark.

Yes you do have to wait for them to fill up but you can always play other games while you wait.  Cool
Brokerstar

50 buyins up (half way there)

Ok so these games are to be fair quite easy coupled with the fact that my hands are holding (I'm running good). The players really are either complete monkey drooling fish or regs that for the most part have a fairly one size fits all game plan and don't really adjust well to other thinking players.

Most of the players I've faced, both regs and fish a like do seem to mentally spew their chips away after you chip away about half their stack and for the most part just need to compose themselves and get a grip in order to boost their win rate. So in short, tilt seems to be a huge issue from what I've seen so far.

Made a few cool videos from some of the matches played today vs a couple of regular players (one is right at the top of the leaderboards) which should help a few of my students out, especially if they want to play $20 shootouts lol.

Just to put this in to perspective. $35 an hour, is approximately £21 an hour, which is over 3 times the minimum wage in the uk, tax free.

Just playing $20 games, food for thought, for anyone who wants to put the effort in to get better.

I know it may not be sustainable at that rate, but all the same. Nice job, well done.

Having a rubbish day

As the title says I'm having a rubbish day where I think I've actually lost every single game lol.

No big deal really just nothing holding or running into the top of really spazzy players ranges.

The best reg I seemed to of faced so far seemed to be the guy that has beat me up the most today but again he has some really insane leaks such as just open shoving for 35bb's, over bet shoving dry flops etc, etc. It's strange that he plays this way as he probably could double his 6% ROI by just chilling out and playing solid for the whole match as he does have moments of being 'OK'.

Anyway such is life, below are the results for the day.

Flat Lined

Not really played a huge amount of volume the last few days as I was sick all day yesterday and never really played. What I have played has been a bit of a break even stretch with regs asking me to chop all over the place. I think one of the guys I played today that asked for a chop may be a Tagpoker member so I'm sorry that I said no but I can't see the point in playing 4 mans to then just chop in the final (that and I felt I'd have an edge, sorry dude but a challenge is a challenge).

I've been playing some Super Turbos while I wait for the 4 mans to fill and I'm really enjoying them so after this challenge I may do something in them, we'll see.

Getting Raped

LOL I'm actually getting my ass handed to me these last few days. If you want to know how to easily beat me at poker just get it in on the turn with a gut shot and you're gold!!!!!!! ( I wont bore you with a plethora of beats, we've all been there or heading there ha ha)

The most tilting part is waiting for ages to get a game going and then the match going on for what feels like hours before you bust to some joke worthy play (ahh poker you fickle bitch).

Super Turbo Graph For Fun & Passing Time

On a side note whilst waiting for these games to fill I've been dicking around in some micro ($10) super turbos, after all they are all the rage. I've never played them before or even considered it as I'm a huge variance nit but there is something quite addictive about them.

After the above challenge is out of the way I may start thinking about doing something serious with this game as it's a lot of fun and you only have to wait half a second for a match with a fish.

And yes, yes I know LOL sample size but I'm just playing a few while waiting for lobbies to fill and trying to figure out the easiest way to beat them.

Super Turbos Are Getting In The Way!!

Addicted

Ok so while waiting for the 4 man lobby to fill I have been splashing around in the super turbos as you know and I've been experimenting with again categorizing player types and really still playing poker rather than being a nashtard shove monkey and so far so good. The sample obviously means nothing at all but I'm finding it hard to motivate myself to play 4 mans when I can play 20 ST's in the same time.. Ha ha

I'm still only playing up to $20 a game just to not cheat at making 100 buyins a month but I'm going to combine the results of both ST's and 4 mans so my ROI will drop but I'm just enjoying these bad boys too much to ignore them.

This Game Is Torture!!!!!!!

Why oh why did I cross over to the dark side? I have a perfectly good game that is nice and low variance, prints money at reg speeds, simples. But nooooo, I had to go and play with the cool kids and now I'm hooked.

The idea of having to wait more than 10 seconds for a match seems crazy. The thought of playing a match for more than four minutes seems  mundane and so 2009. It's as if I've lost my greatest asset, patience. I feel like I've started playing with pokers version of Crack.

I honestly wouldn't presume to have a win rate at all until I've played thousands of games. They are nothing is not humbling ha ha

There is room early on to define the kind of opponent you're up against and have a quick counter strategy but you have to make use of every single thing you see from the very first hand.

I'm getting a load of hand history files together and I'm going to have some friends go through them who also play super turbos to see what spots I can improve on.

No I got back playing some 4 mans earlier today will smash out a few more later but will no doubt keep playing super turbos because I'm a poker crack addict now. I think if it was higher stakes I'd get upset playing them but for $20 a pop I just can't help myself. ha ha

Don't even want to look through my ST matches to find it right now but I raised pre with 97 and the flop came down: A, 6, 5 and the guy donked into me.

Now in earlier hands he check called mid pair type hands and check raised me a couple of times. In a previous match he also CR all in with top pair when I had two pair so when he led I couldn't figure out what he was repping given previous hands?

So I thought I have to overs to the 6 & 5 and a gut shot so if he is feeling desperate and donking a mid pair the I may get some folds and have a good amount of outs even if called by that range and again I thought an ace would check raise.

As it happens he did call with 78os and I held.

There is nothing to say Stars will follow.

I don't know, but PokerStars seem a lot more confident about their future, than Full Tilt did after black friday.

If PokerStars.Com goes, I doubt it is the last we will have seen of PokerStars.

well, all these rumours...

let's first wait and see what happens, but i think PS will be a lot more stable than FTP.

Given stars' statement, do you guys reckon everyone will start coming over to stars now?

Stars will definitely get a few more players now, but I'm guessing some can't go because all their funds are locked up for at least one more month Surprised)

hey broker, are you still doing this challenge or is it stopped cause of the fulltilt not working thing?

I can't play on FT where I have most of my money at the moment as right after I withdrew money from stars. I have made a small re deposit on stars after some people that I respect said that it is likely safe there but only a tiny amount to make some videos.

I always have issues with challenges these days ha ha.

Back On Track

Ok so after Full Tilt stopped serving Euro players my challenge kind of got derailed. I took any money I had out of Stars (wasn't much as I hardly play there) and haven't played hardly at all bar a bit of propping.

Then I put a tiny amount back on Stars to make a couple of videos for my site and the day before yesterday decided to hit the 4 mans and try and finish off.

Time Left

So I had just over a week to go before we lost Full Tilt and I've now started playing on the 5th of July (on Stars) so I'm going to extend the deadline another week to the 13th (hopefully will be lucky for me ha ha) to take into account when I couldn't play.

Super Turbos that I played whilst waiting for games

New Pokerstars 4 Mans

Total Profit
= $1364

So $636 left to go in a week which will be even harder as Stars has $15 games so I will also play a few $30 games to level it out but will keep my average buyin $20 or under.

Let's get back on it..

Time Is Running Out!!!!

Time Is Running Out!!!!

Only a few days left to go so I'm going to be up all night and day getting games in to try and get this done. If I never dicked around with super turbos I imagine this would of been done already.. Ha ha Well I guess I just like to make life harder for myself.

As I wait for the 4 mans to fill I still can't help but play some micro stakes super turbos but this is partly passing time and partly wanting to crack these.

I've spent so much time thinking about them (mostly in frustration) that I'm determined to do a different challenge in them next as soon as I feel I'm 'OK' at playing them... Anyway back to this particular challenge.

Pokerstars results

Well I say finished, I mean the time is up!! Well I never quite made 100 buy ins which is a shame but I did make just under $1700 in a months play at relative micro stakes.

I have to admit though that on the last couple of days as I was racing to finish I started running bad then I certainly spewed a few buyins off which is very retarded on my part so my results should of been a bit better but still wouldn't of hit 100 buyins.

So my total money was $1648 and with rakeback/ bonus was almost exactly $1700. I think my overall 4 man ROI was just under 40% although I'm not 100% sure how to work it out between the two sets of 4 man stats so if one of you maths guys wants to step in then by all means do. Rolling Eyes

There are a few morals to this story. Firstly you guys can build real bankrolls in a short space of time without having to play crazy high stakes or levels you are uncomfortable with.

Second, when you have a plan, stick to it! Don't be like me, all ADHD and start playing other games just for the crack of it (super turbos ha ha).

Thirdly and most importantly, just stop playing if you start to feel tilted. To be honest I never play tilted which might explain a huge lack in my volume in general but low variance too. I'm not sure what the exact answer for tilt is I just know that we all have our own demons and have to learn to control them or they end up controlling us.

So that's it for the 4 mans, they are fun, fill up quite fast and are not that tough and you should certainly be able to boost your win rate in them with the extra dead money in the pot. I'll still play a few so I can get some videos up for you guys though.

My main focus now is going to be on cracking Hyper turbos or super turbos. These fickle bitches of a game will not beat me and as soon as I know what I'm doing then I'll be sure to pass a little wisdom your way.  Very Happy

Run good guys.
