Brokerstar Challenge 2 - $300 - $5k in 30 days! Cash Games$300 - $5000 in 30 days!
Ok guys this is an all new challenge as it's been a while since I've done anything worth talking about in poker.
Many of you know that I built my initial bankroll playing as an online prop player so for this challenge I'm going back to my roots.
There are really two major reasons that making money as a prop was relatively easy. Firstly prop sites never attracted many sharks due to the lack of games so the people that play there are often terrible. The second major reason is that you get payed to play!
I've been checking out all of the latest prop offers and rooms available and I've chosen Prop site 2 to do the challenge on as that seems to have constant traffic so I can get games as and when I want even though the rakeback is only 80%. It also has some of the best and most flexible prop rules I have ever seen so I won't be too restricted in my play.
Updates
I haven't figured out how to get HEM working so I'll be 8 tabling without a HUD (always fun) but I'm going to have to do cashier screen shots and prop pay screen shots (unless I figure out how to get HEM working and produce a graph).
The challenge is going to be a mixture of win rate and prop pay so it all counts towards the total.
The site only pays 80% rakeback but that's a fair trade for it having the most traffic.
Game of choice?
I'll be playing a mix of 6 max and full ring cash and I'll also be starting lots of tables so should get a good amount of HU action in when I first get sat.
Bankroll Management - Aggressive, Very Aggressive
For you spin up degens out there this challenge is going to be very aggressive with regards to roll management. I'll start out playing NL20 and play NL50 on a couple of fishy tables with only 8 or so buyins. I don't advocate this for many but I do feel I have a huge edge on the sheer fish that play there and again I get paid to play so I can afford to push it.
Deadline
Beginning of May!
Enjoy this mini adventure.

Why can't you get HEM working ? because of it not being compatable with the site you are playing on ?

Funny you posted this as I've literally just been looking to play some poker on that site. 'I seem to know' prop site 7 is really not all that, so will be wanting to boost my roll in better ways at site #2 with a bit of luck .
Please let us know if you do get a HUD working. Best of luck with the challenge, will be sick stuff indeed mate

Update One
Wow these threads are actually quite motivating when you intend to update it everyday.
Well it has been a long, long time since I grinded and you know what? I loved it! I havent had this much fun playing in ages. Every table had fish all over them and frankly the 'regs' were horrible, they limp/ called more than the fish!!
I had regs calling my 4 bets OOP, 100 blinds deep with suited connectors, it was a fun session.
I started playing at 9am and have just called it a day. I spent most of the day 6 - 7 tabling a mix on 6 max and full ring, NL20 with some NL50 short stacked on super fishy tables.
Results for the day
I'm not sure the prop pay is 100% as it likely needs to update again and it only says I played 1800 ish hands but I'm sure I played more but as the days go on, it'll all catch up.

Just checked my stats for the day using the sites stats tracker as I felt I had played a lot more than my prop pay says I have.
Turns out I have, not a bad day volume wise which should be a nice bump to the prop pay for the challenge.

Not sure where it says that? But I've been a prop for quite a few years now so if that was the case I'd imagine given the volume that I used to rake (was always top three in the leader boards) I'd just get looked after right away.

It doesn't say, which annoyed me when I got an email that said the 80% had to be earned, starting at 27% Albeit only 10K hands, but still.

That's strange as I never had any email like that. It may be something to do with my propping past, may be something to do with becoming a new prop, I'm not sure to be honest.
I'll ask Rob and find out for you.

Update 2
Ok never got a chance to play too much today as I've had a hectic day doing everything else that needed to be done. I managed a couple of hours only 4 tabling NL50 and finished down a few bucks but nothing to worry about, variance!!
I also now have a fight coming up at the end of the month so I'll need to train as well as grind. Gonna be a hectic month.
I managed to get my updated stats from yesterday as far as prop pay goes and I have to say that for playing low stakes poker I'm happy with the level of prop pay for the day.

Update 3
I haven't really ben able to play many hands over the last couple of days mainly due to my friends birthday and today being mothers day but I did manage to squeeze in about 1300 or so hands at a mix of NL20 and NL50 6 max.
It's been a mixed bag. I'm really happy with how I played apart from one really retarded misclick on a river at NL50 which I should of bet $25 and instead bet 50c and I'm gutted as I had a set and the guy had two pair but that'll teach me to play when hung over.
So other than that it's been just over break even for the last 1300 hands but then that's the joy of playing as a prop player, you still get paid!!
My prop pay stats haven't updated yet (sometimes it takes a couple of days to update your pay) so I'll add them in later.

Update 4
Wow what an up and down ride today was. Don't get me wrong the games here are certainly not hard, at all, in fact it reminds me of Facebook poker with the level of terrible play from both regs and fish (sometimes it's hard to tell them apart). My point is I've ran into more coolers than an ice cream man but still pushing on through.
I played about 2500 hands today so not as much as I'd of liked to but I also had a Portuguese lesson and two Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes so it's been a busy old day.
My prop pay still hasn't been updated and is still only showing about 5000 hands of play so there should be a nice little bumper to the roll coming any day now.
But here are stats as of today.
Cashier & Hands Played
Total Money (that we know of)
$672
I imagine there is another $100 or so in prop pay that is not accounted for. My plan is to start shot taking NL100 as soon as we have $1000.
I'll keep you posted.

Well the last couple of days were more epic horridness in terms of how I run but I guess that was made up for by just how terrible the players are here.
I was lucky enough to have position on a whale earlier who just assumed any pocket pair or ace rag was the stone cold nuts.
I was up a reasonable amount when we get effective stacks of 150bb each in pre flop with my KK vs his 66 but he turns a 6 sadly. About half an hour later the table is breaking and it's heads up play with just me and said whale fish when we again end up all in with my top two pair vs his top pair but alas he hits a better two pair on the river and then leaves the table! Such is life.
Managed to grind some hands which is the main thing but my prop pay still hasn't been updated so I have no clue how much I'm owed right now (couple of hundred I'm guessing? We'll see).

I'll hit the tables again for a few hours tonight but right now it's too sunny to play so I'm going to work on my tan.

Update 5
Ok the lack of up to date prop pay stats is a bit annoying so I got in touch with some people in the know and they said this site is a bit rubbish at updating your payment but great at paying every other week.
I have been told that the best way to calculate the prop pay is to look at your player points. Each player point is worth 18c in prop pay.
Cashier
Player Points
1850 = $333 in prop pay
Total money
$927 (I've deducted $138 as that was paid into my cashier from my prop pay)
So firmly out of NL20 and grinding NL50 now and as I'm not far away from the four figure mark I'll be shot taking NL100 soon.

I haven't got a clue to be honest as the site doesn't work with HEM and I can't even figure out how to download my HH files for someone else to look at for me.

Update 6
Very first hand of the day was set over set (not in my favor) and I thought it was going to be one of those days. I had an epic whale calling that seemed to be calling 100% of hands (not using a HUD so could be more like 95% of hands)and called my 3 bet with Q2 'soooted' when I had QQ but sadly when all the money went in on the 622 flop I was smoke.
Other than an early dent to my roll the rest of the session was more standard face book poker. Tons of droolers limping in and calling huge bets, playing out of position with utter rags but enough about the regs, there were plenty of fish too..
I'm going to play some more tonight.

Given how loose these droolers are, why would I ever do much more than 3 bet for value?

The wider people call my 3bets, the wider I can 3bet for value, no?
|
Brokerstar
|
This is also true but lots of players are loose but the dynamic in most games involves a lot of limp/ calling. Players playing like 60/ 3 styles etc so don't get me wrong I'm isolating a ton of limpers with a super wide range and applying lots of pressure post flop but most of the 3 bets I'm involved with are really just for straight value.
I was also playing without a HUD until last night which is a bit of a challenge over 8 tables so I just kept it very simple, lock down ABC poker but my 3 bet % is normally about 6.5%.

Yes I probably could open my stealing up a bit more I mean people really are calling a silly amount though. I was on four tables earlier where each table had at least three people each that played 50% VPIP or higher. I'm playing such a straight forward value game it's unreal.

Last mini update for the day
Well I tried to play a bit of NL100 tonight but I'm just dead after an epic no gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu session and as always the guy that takes the class tonight was in an evil mood and for all intense and purposes we pretty much all fought tonight!!!
It's been a nice day though, I got to play in the sun (got a bit burnt) and ran pretty good which has bought me exactly on target for how far we are in the month. I really want to play much more volume next week though to make the most out of the prop pay.
Comedy Hand
I was being really aggressive and stealing a lot as the table got short as these guys were really tight. I was just finishing up my session and about to leave as the two half stacked fish at the table had left when this hand came up.
Each time I raise this guy was folding. Then he started to see some flops and I'd time and c bet to which he'd fold. This flop came down and I insta, snap c bet just the same amount as usual to really look like I was getting out of line and this is the result (just felt like giving you the back story to this hand, I'm not just a calling station )

$2,000 Milestone!!!!!!!
Ok so I know I said I wasn't going to play NL200 until about $2600, well I lied! If you had seen how juicy this table was in the lobby with one free seat open next to a blue whale, you too may of been tempted to sit.
Nearly everyone sat at the NL200 table were the same faces that I see at the NL20 and NL50 tables just being even more degen, awesome!
First comedy hand at NL200
Only info I had on the guy really was seeing him call with a flush draw a few hands earlier and pot the river when his opponent checked to him with top pair.

Update 12
Well there hasn't been a huge amount to report over the last couple of days as I've not been running too great but hell that's all part of poker and you gotta take the rough with the smooth.
There have been a few hands that I'm not happy with how I played (I'm only human), when looking over some of my session I seem to be playing a lot tighter and a bit more passive than I have been for the most part which always used to happen to me when I ran bad, I just clammed up but the important thing to remember is not to change a winning style just because things are not going your way.
I am now seeing a lot of the same regs at NL100 so I'm making it my job to learn all I can about their games so that I can exploit them just as hard as the fish.

You know the best bit of the prop pay is that even though I've lost money since my last update, I've actually made money

Update 13
The last few thousand hands have been a real slog to say the least. I think I've made a few light call downs as a result of running bad that could of been avoided, even more so when I could name their hole cards just as I hit the call button.
Even at stakes that don't really have any bearing on my life it's amazing how poker can get into your head and rattle you.
So rather than continue to play my B game, I took a break, watched a couple of mid stakes cash vids and then recorded about 35 mins of me playing some NL200 ($1/$2 blinds) for Alex (cash school coach) to review.

Halfway Through The Month
Ok so I've tried to play a bit after training but I'm just shattered. I really am trying not to fall behind but I am a little off pace for hitting 50,000 hands in the 30 days. I'm also not quite at the half way mark in terms of money either but I'm not far off. Will be a big push for the second half of month but should be doable still as I'll be playing higher stakes.
Comedy Hand Of Day
God love people that are happy to play for stacks with top pair no kicker.

So the last 4000 hands have been fairly breakeven but I've taken a step back and made sure I have tweaked my game to kick the shit out of the mediocre regs as well as killing the fish.

So what's my plan for here on in? I'm going to play as many NL100 games as I can but during parts of the day traffic is really slow. At first getting hands in was easy as I just sat other regs that were starting tables (I'm guessing they are props too) and played HU until the table filled but today alone I had three regs between NL50 and NL100 sit out and decline me action, one of them said sorry you're just on another level which made me laugh a bit. Even if I felt that was true of another player, I'd never personally admit it.
I'm still shot taking really fishy NL200 tables but feel I may not be playing optimally as I'm so under rolled but some of the tables are just so fishy that I'd just feel dirty not sitting them.
So half a month gone and half to go. Bring on the new watch!!!!!!!!

Update 15
Going To War With The Regs
Not too much to report today except for the fact that I had a HUGE whale at my tables who donated over $2000 to the poker community, sadly for me he had position on me which made it very hard to get my hands on much of that money.
I have started really attacking some of the weak regs that have high fold to 3 bet % by making light three bets although one of them may now be catching on and 4 bet my last three 3 bets. (did you keep up with all of those 3's?)
Also watching a slightly insane video maker at cardrunners today, a guy called Nikatu or something to that extent who mixes in solid strategy with random clips of bunny rabbits. If nothing else it kept my attention from start to finish when normally I fall asleep half way through most poker videos.

Update 16
So the above image just about sums up my last 8000 hands, just break even. I guess it could be worse. When I run bad I break even so not the end of the world, just frustrating to grind all week for very little.
I've had a few sexy moments that have come off of the back of attacking some of the regs that fold a lot to 3 bets. I find that some of them have started calling me more and floating my C bets to take the pots away on the turn so to counter that I have been tightening up my 3 bets vs them and making my standard c bets with hands then checking turns as if I'm giving up to induce the bluffs from them trying to take pots away which has been fun.
Comedy Hand Of The Day
This was a reg that I had really been 3 betting a lot and noticed that he seemed to be calling me lighter than someone who folds 82% to 3 bets should and seemed to be floating to take pots away on the turn.

You just need the latest version on Poker Tracker and the auto import and HUD work fine.

Disaster Strikes
No I haven't destroyed my roll but a lot has happened in the last few days to derail my challenge.
Good news is my sister has had a little baby boy bad news is that my Dad collapsed So have been at my parents house the last few days.
I've come back to try and get some hands in to be informed that the prop deal has changed since the shake up at stars and Full Tilt so I'm more restricted in the games that I can play which means during the day I struggle to get many tables loaded up.
I think I'm going to have to pause the challenge and find another site to finish this on.

My best to your old man Dom. And congrats on thh unlce title. You can build a team of personally staked micro stakes grinders in your own blood line. By the time they are 18 they be at the high stakes man! Beats playing sonic the hedgehog. Oh yeah and give em £10 pocket money every week and tell them the $ symbol means play money.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Yes it sucks when prop rules change but that is also part of the job to an extent sites have props then when they get a bit busy they make life hard for a while before eventually getting rid of the prop team but it's just business i guess.

Really sad to hear about your Dad, as you know I have had problems with my Mom's health over recent months, very tough times. I know you don't really know me as such, but if you want to talk anytime, I am always on Skype.
Great news about the new life coming in to the world though, one of the best feelings in the world for the people involved. It's all down hill from there though, just off to try and calm down a screaming 8 month old
I wouldn't worry to much about the challenge, you can do other challenges and crush them, like you always do.
