Blazing_Saddler (All or Nothing)

As some of you may have read on other threads, I have been having a difficult time with poker recently. To the point where I seriously was/am considering just giving it up all together, and finding something new to focus on.

I have put a lot of time and effort in to poker, I guess I am fortunate that my life has allowed me to do this, and it has been fun for sure. It has paid for a new laptop, a new car (not brand new) and various other things that have cropped up over the past year or so. I can walk away from it now, and say I was a winner, and no one can ever take that away from me.

I don't actually know what has happened. There are no bad beat stories here, no complaints about variance, although I have had my fair share of it, the same as everyone else. I just lost my edge somewhere along the way, and I honestly don't know how to get it back. I used to smash fish to bits, just take their money for fun, and now I am just left scratching my head, at how I lost another buy in to a drooler , most of the time.  If I have put all this effort in over the past 18 months, and am worse than when I started, then what is the point ?

I'm not someone who is easily beaten, although I do have confidence issues for sure. Earlier today, I was all for throwing in the towel, taking the rest of my roll out, and leaving poker behind me. Then I just thought about it, and thought, no, I don't give in this easily. I honestly don't believe the games have become unbeatable. Maybe I got a bit above my station, took my eye off the ball,or whatever,  but there is in my mind , still money at the tables to be taken. So I am giving it one last shot, a real good shot, working hard to improve, to get my edge back, and be proud of my achievements again, rather than feeling quite depressed about it all.

I have made some pretty hefty withdrawals recently, I now have a roll of around $1400. Which is obviously plenty to be going on with, but the way I have been going, it wont last long if I don't improve. So I have a plan of what I want to do, I'm going to give it my all over the next 3 months, and see where I am at there. If I really feel I haven't made any progress by then, then I really am just taking what's left (if any) and moving on to something else.

I am going to be concentrating on Turbos, I feel they are the future, if I really want to make it higher up the stakes, the traffic is just no where near enough at the reg speeds. I may as well try and crack these now, rather than wait until I get to the $50s- $100s, or whatever. Obviously the variance will be higher, but I am going to give my self big cushions with my bankroll.

So I shall be starting grinding at the $23 Turbos, that gives me 60 buyins approx. This should be enough, but obviously if things start going wrong, I may well have to move down. Hopefully I can avoid that, but I am prepared to if I have too. I am going to stick to the $23s for at least 1000 games, before even considering moving up. I want to just concentrate on being a winning player again. After the 1000 games, I shall re assess, where I am at.

My volume goals are 25 games a day, 25 days a month. I can actually do this, and possibly more. Some days I may not play 25, but over a month I can average 25 a day I think. That gives me 625 games a month, which is pretty solid imo.

No $ goals, just totally focusing on being a winning player. Some of the things I shall be doing to improve my game over the coming weeks....

* Session Reviews , every day, religously.

* Post at least 3 hands per week on the forums. (please bollock me if I don't)

* Watch 2 videos a day (at least) I have a tonne of videos I never even watched, I also want to watch all of Brokers videos again. Not only watch them, but understand them, and take something from them all. 2 a day 25 days month, is 50 a month. I shall be posting which ones I watched in my thread, and giving reports of what I got out of them.

* Sweats with players in a similar position to me. I have a fair few contacts on Skype , of decent players, so I will be bugging you all  Very Happy

* Working on the maths side of the game. So yes I will be using pokerstove, and posting things on my thread (and probably making a complete fool of myself) but I don't care, if I learn from being an idiot, then that's all that matters.

Probably add more things to above soon, but that is enough to be going on with.

Sigh, back to the grind.

GL.

Seems like a pretty tough challenge you are setting yourself though, both in terms of volume requirement & discipline required to stay at one level for so long.

Happy to look at HHs for you & I'm not around too much on Skype these days, but I'm happy to set up a sweat with you. Pretty sure you crushed last time we did one.
BetMagicMoney

GL buddy im really rooting for you Very Happy im 100% sure you can back to crushing. if you want some one to review your sessions with you im more than willing to do it daily as i think it would help me just as much as you Very Happy

either way mate best of luck

25 a day isn't that tough at the turbos really. The study stuff may well take up a lot of time. If it feels like it is to much , then I shall adjust it , as required. The main thing is, to focus on getting back to being a winning player, because right now, I'm not.

just a thought, have you considered just taking a break for a couple weeks?...  I'm pretty sure ever since i've been here you've been grinding hardcore .... and that's well over a year now. I've changed over to 6max, mostly because i needed a change of pace.... (still pulling my hair out though)
I am missing husng's from time to time, when i do play them though, it seems im reading players/hands easier than i did before.

I personally hope things go well for you and will be cheering for you. I would miss your informative posts.

good luck blazing!

I have had breaks here and there. My volume has varied loads too. I would still post on the forum, even if I wasn't playing, more than likely.

hey blazing, have you ever thought about going into coaching  or staking? as in take some time out of playing and rolling a noob from the 2s upto the big leagues?

Not really, I'm not a good teacher, and I in all honesty I have never really cracked the $50s over a sustained period, so my advice to take anyone higher than $30s isn't really valid. The money side of things isn't the be all and end all for me, although it is very nice thank you very much. I don't like losing, I said I wanted to be a $100 winning reg, and that is still my goal now. In all honesty I should have done it by now,  but yet again I am back to where I started from. Sloppy and Lazy. Hopefully not anymore though.

would like to just chip in here as a new members perspective...........

I read your 1000th postm older posts, other peoples opinions of you and im really saddened and shocked to what i read then and what im reading now!!

Truly hope you get out of this rut and the only thing i can say is that from what ive read it sounds like your angry, maybe not at poker, maybe more to yourself, anger and doubt of your own talents!!

My advice is simply to just relax before you do anything else, just relax because at the moment it sounds like your bringing a war to poker...... it will only tilt you... and tilting leads to the dark side!!!!

GL abd blaze the trail!!!
U Cook Socks

No not, angry. Disheartened, and a little disappointed in myself, but not angry. Will post my SS stats in a moment as my starting point, and off we go. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Go and look at Kantor1003.

I know you've had a break even month but this is a solid graph mate. Just a bit of a downward bumb. Great foundation to work from!
evprop

wow... come on blaze snap out of it, man this is a blip compared to your overall history... i understand tho that to us it looks like a blip but to you its a matter of a greater magnitude.. GLGGLGLGLGLGLLGL
kierkegaard1

you shouldnt be too disheartened. ive suffered tough break even stretches of >600 games (on one currently atm). and you're actually slightly in profit over last 600, so dont think that you're terrible or have lost edge. sure, there's lots to improve upon but confidence will be good for you, too.

You are correct that 25 turbos a day is not huge volume.

My concern for you is that it can be tough to play this volume when you are lacking confidence. For example if you lose 4-5 in a row due to run bad or because u are not playing your a game what do you do then?

Maybe you need to build in a rule that you will quit after losing x BIs in a day and not sweat the volume quite as much.

As kierk said your graph doesnt really look so bad. I wonder if a spell of run bad has affected your confidence and subsequently your game?

Definitely true mate. Confidence is low, and no doubt it has affected my game.

The graph only tells half the story though. It's how I feel in myself about how I am playing. It's up to me to put that right of course. I have come back before, and hopefully do it again. Time to get to work.

As for the volume, as I said, I can re assess that at any time, if I am finding it to hard. I think 500 games a month is a realistic amount at the turbos, if I aim for the 625 and hit 500 then that's not going to be to bad.
Reseal

Good luck with everything man, hope it works out for you!

Best of luck with it. Smile

Sick graph, especially in the beginning. You got it in you so I'm sure you'll do fine.

Wasn't really the beggining, I started off on Full Tilt , Blazing_Saddler, but yeah, I did really well.

I have played some today, and played much better, am taking the Easter Weekend off to spend some time with the family, and do a bit of Watching football and Drinking Saturday, so will update next week.

Sorry to hear you thinking about quitting, but I get it. Haven't really been feeling it lately either.

Instead of going on a "make it or brake it" run, have you considered just taking some indefinite time off, coming back only if and when you feel like it?

Take care, and whatever you decide, best of luck mate.

I am just going with it now, and giving it my all, if I don't make it, I am sure I will still walk away a winner. Been working hard over the past week, and things are going slightly better, but nothing to write home about. Gonna give it some time as outlined in my plan, and see where I am at.

Let me know if you wanna work over some HH's together Blazing!

Hey man what happened?
I began reading all your bankroll threads and it stops here..
Did you quit or what?
I really hope you didn't, your posts are a big inspiration for me.
U Cook Socks

No mate, not quit, just not updated for a week or so.

Have moved over to PokerStars now, will update some time this week hopefully. Volume has been pretty low, cos the waiting times on FT were ridiculous, especially the reg speeds.

On PokerStars Turbos, at the $30s right now. Hopefully get a decent week in this week, as I am on holiday the following week.

I wont be quitting anytime soon, I am in this for the long run now.
savrababa

Great to hear that!
I hope you run like your ass is on fire Smile

Just realised, look in here http://tagpoker.myfastforum.org/ftopic1342-90.php

Apoligies for the confusion. I rejoined the Top Team a few weeks ago, so my progress will be going in there from now on.
savrababa

Ah ok..
