Blazing @ The TurbosAs I said in my other thread, I am now solely backed and mentored by Borg. So this will be my thread from now on. Am going to use this opening post to give you all a general idea of where I am at, where I want to get there, and how I plan on getting there.
Firstly, sometime ago I decided to play Turbo games. Reasons for this are mainly that the action is just so slow in the reg speeds, and it is obviously only going to get slower as I move up the stakes. I took advice of Borg and a few other people I respect, and decided if I was in it for the long term, Turbos were going to be the way to go.
I have been working with Borg on Turbos for around a couple of months I would say now. To be honest I have been pretty break even since I started them. I think there are a few things I needed to adjust too, one of them being the increased variance, which is notabley more than the reg speeds. Other than that of course, playing with shallower stacks, which obviously you do a lot more of in Turbos. I feel I am just starting to get to grips with things a little better now. There have been other minor issues, or more niggles really. Haven't played as much volume as I would have like, or should have really, and there have been couple of holidays in there, where either myself or Borg have been absent.
At the moment I am playing the $30 games, with a view to moving up as quickly as possible to the $60s on Stars. I am really keen to push on now, I feel like I have been stuck in the same place for a long time now, and it is really time to push on and have a real good go at it.
Myself and Borg have agreed on 400 games a month as a volume target, this isn't going to stand still though, it will be pushed up as the months go on, until I reach a sensible target that I can meet. May actually struggle this month, as I am on holiday next week, but I think I will still do it.
All in all, at the moment, As I said, I am stuck in a bit of a break even run. I feel like I am playing pretty well, Borg seems happy with my game. If I "pump up the volume" Keep listening to Borg, who has picked up on a few leaks that I need to work on, then hopefully I will be rewarded for my efforts.
I will update at least once a week (Monday Mornings) Probably Sunday evening this week , as I am away monday. Think that is about it really for now, other than to say, thank you to Broker for all of his help, much appreciated, and to thank Borg for all of his help, and all of the faith he has shown in me.
Blazing.

It's more different than people think to adjust, I have found a big difference, the main thing I think you have to learn is how to play with shallow stacks. You spend a lot more time playing 25bb and below than you do at the reg speeds. You still have a big edge if you get good at it though.
I chose to play them, because the action is pretty slow in the reg speeds to be honest, waiting times can be quite big at off peak times, and even then there are a lot of regs (not fish) after a few fish, even at the $30s, which isn't exactly high stakes. So I assumed it would only get worse as/if I move up. So I chose to try and learn Turbos now.
I also like them because I can sit down and play a 2 hour session and get 10-15 games in, where as I have had 2 hour sessions playing reg speeds and only got like 5-6 games in. You ROI will be lower, but if you can play as well as you do at the reg speeds, your $/Hour should be better.

Good luck Blazing. I know you'll do well if you put the volume in, I've never seen bad advice from you on here yet. And with Borg plugging the odd leak I'm looking forward to seeing the giraffes.
There's a fella who only plays 100 & 200 reg speeds with a sick graph on stars, top of the leaderboard for games up to $100, not far from the top up to $300 games, plays a small ball game but I know what you mean, bigger fish pool in the Turbs. I haven't played a turbo for a few weeks because I can't win an all in to save my life. Getting it in good is way overrated. ;o)
Hope you keep this updated regularly.

It's the waiting times more than anything mate. I don't shy away from playing regs, I don't see the point, especially as I am trying to improve my game. You can wait anything up to 20 minutes for a game at the regs speeds @ the $30s, so I am assuming it will be much worse when/if I get to the $100s. Where as a few mins is the max you wait for a Turbo game. I have sometimes played 3 turbos while I would have been waiting for one Reg.
I guess I could mix them in, but for now I am just concentrating on getting good at the turbos, with Borgs help.
And yeah, I will be keeping it updated, might do a little update later, but there will definitely be one a week at least.

Finally had a bit of run good this week, made around $400 in 3 days which was nice. Had a stab at the $60s this evening, which didn't exactly go to well. Back to running like sh*t again really. Nothing to worry about though, was just a few games.
Going to continue at the $30s now, am off on a short break next week with the family, then resume with a strong finish to the month after that all being well.
Not much point in posting graphs etc at this point, if you are really interested in my graph, just check me out on Shark Scope. U Cook Socks on Poker Stars.

I really should update this thread more. To busy posting on everyone elses.
Okay, things haven't gone so great since the start of my stake with Borg. We have been in profit (just) but nothing worth talking about. Been a long break even stretch.
Borg has done two sessions most weeks with me, and has always been happy with me, sometimes it might be good if he got angry with me but yeah I have had some pretty rubbish variance thrown at me, not least when I did a session at the $60s with Borg watching/helping. We got crushed that session, it was awful, not outplayed by any means, it was just one of those sessions where anything that could go wrong did.
Since then, I have been back at the $30s, trying to grind a bit more. More break even stretch commenced, a good day, followed by an equally bad day, you get the picture.
So far this month, I have got off to a flyer, think I am up about $500, (in before a downswing) So I think when I get to speak to Borg again, we may be ready to shoot at the $60s again. I'll keep you posted.

Sadly my time working with Borg has come to an end. Borg has other commitments coming up, so it seemed best we parted company, for now at least. I'd always be happy to work with him again in the future.
Just want to say thanks for all your help Borg, it really has been a pleasure. One of the nicest most genuine guys I have ever spoken too. Always got time for me, and well you being a bit good at poker helped too We made some money in the end (even if it is probably a small amount to you) Good luck in whatever you are doing with your life in the future.
From today, I am now staked by AggsyB and Red_Dog, to play HUSNG. Have worked with Red_Dog before, and am looking forward to working with Aggsy, who will be taking control of most of the HUSNG training.
I shall be resetting my Shark Scope as of today, for the benefit of the stake, to keep things easy. Starting off playing $30 games, hopefully for a short period, until I bed in/prove myself/whatever. Looking to push on and eventually make the $100 games. I will get there one day trust me.
Thanks to Aggsy/Red_Dog for the opportunity, hope I can repay your faith.
Thread to be updated on a regular basis.

It is with regret, I have had to postpone my stake deal with Ben and Mat for now.
I had some full time work offered to me, worth a fair few £ for the next 2-3 months. Family Christmas comes before poker, so had to take the offer. Ben and Mat were very understanding, and said they would be happy to work with me in the future, so I will hold them to that
So probably be around quite a bit less (day time at least)
Good luck to everyone at the tables.

That's a shame, but also good in a way.
I must admit, to be in a position where you are reliant on income from poker can be very taxing. It must be a huge step for some that set it up correctly, and jump into the unknown.
Family is so much more important than anything mate, and Xmas time is the best time for most families. I hear you mate.
Good luck with it all mate, and i am sure we will catch up in the near future. And thank you for all your help so far.

I've never been in the position of relying on money from poker to be honest. It's just been a bonus.
I must admit I dreamed of making it a career, and it still may be one day (maybe) for now, it is back to being a hobby, which is good, cos I think I was getting dragged down with it a little.
I'm not sure people understand how hard it is to make a living from it. I have put so many hours in trying to improve, and I am still no where near good enough. I can still make a few $£ by doing something I enjoy though, so I guess my hard work wasn't for nothing.
Still be around to help you out Rob, if time zones don't make it difficult.
Talking of which, I really should be in bed, I have got so used to staying up till whenever I want, I forgot I have to be up in a few hours

Cheers for that.
As it stands, just grinding some $7 games at the moment in my spare time, still Turbos.
Not a great start it has to be said, I was 12 buy ins down at one point am somewhere near break even again now. I don't think I was actually playing that bad, which just shows that even at low stake games, run bad/variance is always extremely possible.
I plan on working hard on improving more than putting in bomb loads of volume over the next few months. With a job and a family, not going to get loads done, but hopefully will keep me ticking over nicely, until I come back for another crack sometime around christmas hopefully.

*Update*
Grinded the $7s for a while, then had enough roll to play the $15s, which I did. Had a decent start to them, but have hit a brick wall this week. A combination of running bad, probably as bad as I ever have to be honest, some sick stuff going down, but let's not make excuses, I'm not playing well either, and I know it.
I mean I am so much better than the guys at the $15s, I know I am, you know I am, and even most of the guys I play know I am! There is some reason why I'm not winning (crushing) and I am going to find out what it is. This isn't a "sulking post" either, overall think I am running at 7% at the $15s, so not to bad at all, but I just know deep down, things aren't right, and I need to sort them out.
Got a bit of time off work the next few weeks to work on this, so this is my plan for the rest of October.
- Go back over some fundamentals
Watch a few videos that I watched when I first started playing that helped me lots, Primo's HUSNG go from Scratch and a few others. Think I really need to get back to basics a bit.
- Review games
Something I don't do nearly enough of, is going over my games, it really does help me, I always feel better when I have done it, spotted mistakes and put them right. Just so lazy on my part.
-250 $15 HUSNG's
Should be easy enough to do, 10 games or so a day if I give myself a few days off to spend with the kids, and w/e.
- Get some help
Maybe get a few old friends to go over a few games for me, so good players out there, don't be suprised if I come knocking No pressure to help me ofcourse, but if you wouldn't mind, would be grateful
Over and out
Blazing.

I played this fish today, you know the kind that hardly knows what day of the week it is, dribble coming from his mouth, his fold button removed at birth etc etc.
He rematched me no fewer than 6 times, and I won one game out of all of that (the last one then he vanished, was going to play him all day and night) Now, I looked over these games, and I guess I picked out a few spots where I got frustrated, but in general the cards just fell so dam bad for me. Not just all in situations either, Like I flopped a set, on the dryest board you can imagine, by the river there was one to a straight on the board, of course he shoved all in and I had to fold (he would never do that without the nuts) Other times when I had value hands, and I actually won the pot, the board ran out so I couldn't get as much value as I should.
Other times, I raised his limp 5 x with AA (He never folded) Flop K84, and he leads all in (massive over bet) I mean I thought about folding, but like wtf. K4 obv. And so it went on.
In previous days, I have flopped a full house with QJ, and lost to a royal flush. However, I am trying hard to stay positive, focused, and try and cut out the tilty mistakes, and I am sure I will be winning again very soon.

Thats horrible. Similar thing happened to me yesterday. -30% fish won the first 3 games with some incredible suckouts and stuff like i'd pot a wettish flop, pot the turn - i know he's calling for the flush draw and the the river completes he shoves and i've got 300 chips left. I would usually fold just because id rather be in it then out of it but i called anyway because i was frustrated(Maybe I shouldnt have been making such aggressive bets, not sure). Over and over he kept binking cards. I played him 7 times and took the next 4 games off him. Vom inducing when they run off though...so hard to stay unemotional after a long grinding session and not chase losses etc...man we know you've got the skill though - keep going mate. I try and stay positive after beats like that because you know the odds have to fall in your favour sooner or later and of course we should be glad they call because there is money to be made:)

Good luck blazing, I reckon if you started putting in big sessions you'd move up very quickly.
I had to take a break from stars myself because it was starting to affect my game. 70 buy ins below ev over 1200 games, I just started to hate going all in. In fact, I hated playing droolers, that's got to be bad stuff. I could get them all in constantly crushed, 85-90% ahead but the only thing that was good for was pumping up my EV line. Session after session. It was depressing me even loading up the site to play. The amount of droolers on there that can't fold bottom pair deuce on a soaking wet board that have profits after 1000's of games is just mind boggling. It starts to make you think the game is just random BS.
I've moved to a site that has decent rakeback instead because the rewards on Stars for low stake players is virtually non existant. Are you getting decent rewards there or just staying because it has good traffic?

Funnily enough, I was actually thinking of moving from Stars for a while. Not cos I think it's rigged or anything, I actually have to laugh at people who say "It's riggged" then continue to play on a certain site
Just cos a change is sometimes good. I have an account on Ipoker, with a ludicrous rake/back deal, So was thinking of moving over there for a while, I would certainly be better off with the rakeback, I just really do like the lack of waiting times, and the software on Stars. So yeah to answer your question, mainly for the traffic, and the better software, but Ipoker software is at least bareable, the wait times aren't to bad, especially if you don't mind sitting second, which I don't at the stakes I will be playing anyway.

i hate people like that. today i spied one sitting @ 100e on stars.fr, i snap registered. wound up losing with Ax versus Q8 when this drooler gets it on this board (turn) AT84. i did some genius limp-call his punish (100% punished raise), raised his cbet on the flop, he just flat calls and the 4 drops and he ships it like it made him a full house or something. i snap call with Ax and he rivers the Q for €100. sickening beat, but i was all set for the rematch when he refuses to play me again.
