best way to get the most out of poker videos when studying

i usually just watch them, sometimes take notes, but it gets really boring so i often times quit in the middle of the videos lol failed..

what do you guys do to get the most out of the poker videos that you watch?

I think what I would do in the hands and make note of anything that really stands out or if line I would take is verbalised as bad etc. If you find videos boring I'm not sure anyone can help you be interested. Are you already crushing the games? If so maybe you need to watch more advanced videos.

I've actually written about this before but can't find it anywhere so here goes again.

Getting the most out of training videos

So when I started out watching training videos I too for the most part found them boring and hard to watch all the way through. A lot of the video makers lacked a certain charisma needed to keep me glued to the screen and in the end I started using these same videos as sleeping aids (true story).

But this all seemed silly because I wasn't getting better at poker which is what I wanted.

So one day I made a choice to get more out of my training site subscription and on that day I started to make the footage more interactive to me. Now the way in which I did this was I'd play the video as normal until a hand came up and at that point I would pause the video (seriously pause it before you see what the coach does next or you're cheating yourself!!).

Now with the video paused I'd think about the opponent and the hand in question and I'd write down on a piece of paper how I would play it and why. So my actual note may be something like 4:35 with AK after raising pre flop the board is 4,6,8 and opponent seems very loose post I would do X,Y,Z...... etc

Then when I had made I my mind, then and only then would I press play on the video to see how the coach played the hand out. If he played it the same as me with the same reasoning then I'd pat myself on the back but if he did things differently then I'd try and figure out why to get a better understanding of the concepts needed to be good at poker.

Sometimes I couldn't get my head around why the coaches took different lines to me and at that point I'd head into the forums and ask them questions about said spot in the video until I got it (side note: coaches are not always right and no one plays perfectly so maybe your way is better from time to time).

So here even if I only watched half of the video, it's very likely I learnt a lot more than someone who just sat and watched the video from start to finish. There is not always a climactic lesson or moral of the story by watching a coaching video through to conclusion but what is important is how you're getting the most out of the footage you do watch.

Don't waste your life drifting through it, it's too short.

Hope that helps.

does anyone else have other strategies?

I watched a lot of husng.com vids using VLC media player. You can customise the interface in the options and add buttons to speed up and slow down the video, put them next to the play button.

Most of them can be watched 2x speed, Cogs certainly can Surprised , which halves the time but there's also an option of 1.5x speed which is just fine.
