Anger and Tilt

As infants we all are in inferior position to external ascendancies. We are jumbled by the quantity of extraordinary biological processes which we have absolutely no authority over.
In order to make sense of all of this and master the miserable position we are in, we develop an identity which will give us the illusion of being in power. It will make us appear in charge and hide our inevitably existent vulnerability.
Whenever an occasion appears where we are potentially faced with this vulnerability, we take the line of the least inner and ambient resistance and build up the illusion of being in possession of power.
This line of actions is equivalent to anger and aggression.

Now let's transfer this thought to poker. When in poker are we confronted with situations of which we have no authority over? The best and most obvious example for this are all-ins. As soon as the money goes in, we can not control in any way how the board runs out or which hand our opponent holds. We are at the mercy of probability at this point which automatically decreases the power we possess in that situation. We instinctively feel the urge to create an illusion which drowns the reality out. We become angry. We tilt.
Needless to say, this mental state will undoubtedly cause undesired effects which will ultimately result in an escalation of things.

I want all of you to realize that it is counterproductive concerning poker to give in to this illusion. Your feeling of power will continuously decrease as you build up your illusion.
Bottom-line of this article is that you need to stop being delusional and start facing reality by accepting the fact that you are in no way an ultimate authority.

Bullshit - no offence but you don't have children. My 3 year old pretty much has absolute authority over me.

I am one who has been through anger management course's. All people deal with anger in different ways, whether they show anger in forms of violence, for example ... i punch holes in my drywall... which i've learned is actually a form of therapy... anyone that has done this will know that after the 'act' of punching the wall, you calm down quite significantly. Others drink, some yell and scream at thier family and yet others get really depressed and do drugs and much more. Just like in poker there is aggressive anger, passive agressive anger etc. etc.. Anger is a part of life and is also temporary. I know my anger is gone and forgotten sometimes right after I vent and leave a flaming post on these forums at times, or hitting the walls  (as embarrassing as they are sometimes) Its just a matter of getting it out and letting loose for a minute or two. Granted, there are other ways to relinquish anger... but i do what works for me. And being an ex fighter... it comes naturally--- and quickly. I hold no regrets for my angry outburst and occasional flaming posts... as once it's over with I can get down to business and deal with whatever mistakes i've made that caused the anger.

ps--- not saying yelling at family or hitting people, or doing drugs is a good thing... if you are doing that ... get help.
The Angler

I know this a thread is a little old but, lately I've been forcing myself to take the longest possible amount of time to make my call/raise/folds when I feel that I'm tilting and it really does seem to help.

I had nearly a month of passive tilt after watch Brokers videos, assuming I was right and knew what I was doing Smile

If you are tilting, stop, watch a match on replayer and you will see moment after moment of tilty goodness oozing out of hands.....

I'm currently doing a diploma in NLP and hypnotherapy, definitely scope for anchoring an ideal "state" or "zone" for poker, or resetting the anger button.
