2012 challenge Turning $450 into a Porsche New Challenge - 2012
Ok so I'm going to do something bigger than I have in my previous challenges. I'm going to turn the remaining $450 that I have left at Betonline and run it up as high as I can playing HUSNG's, heads up cash and some 6 max and short handed cash games.
HUSNG's
I'm going to make videos of my play at each stake level, right up to the highest stakes available for you guys to have something new to watch and keep me focused. I've played a few $30 games already with my $450 and so far they still seem beatable, even in 2012 lol
What Porsche will I buy?
I will spend the entire bankroll that I build on a porsche so if I play low volume and/ or badly then it may look like this:
If I do Ok then maybe something like this:
If I run hotter than Usain Bolt on roids then who knows?
Updates
I'll be updating with all of my major milestones in this thread or though I'll likely be updating Twitter everyday as it's super quick and easy and I'll also let people know on there when I'll be playing. You can follow me on Twitter by searching for Tagpoker.
To sum up
By Christmas I will have bought a Porsche with my bankroll and will post a bunch of pics with me likely abusing it round a track ha ha.
For those of you that have jobs and play poker for fun, I firmly believe you should reward yourself with your poker winnings or else is all the stress worth it?
Watching me play
If you want to rail me or get involved in the worlds most fishy site then you can download the software from this page: Betonline Poker review
I hope you guys enjoy this challenge and I'll get some HU vids up soon.

Cool, but I would definitely look into maintenance and repair before buying. I've heard older Porsches own you lol. Parts costs can be pretty outrageous.

Well let's get the challenge done first and I'll take it from there. Although to be fair I'm only ever happy with high maintenance, expensive pleasures, just ask my ex girlfriend!! lol
On a brighter note, Plus $210 at the $30 games so far today, boom!!
Will play some more games later.

I've written to the Farnham Herold, Camberley News and Poker Player Magazine about it so hopefully one of them gets on the case?
I'll be playing an equal mix of all games I imagine but I will make an effort to play every stake level on the site at HUSNG's.
I think there may be one or two HU cash vids although not being my main game, I never made many.
Welcome to the site too mate.

Update One
Ok I've mainly been playing $30 HUSNG's with a few $50 games thrown in tonight and I've been running fairly good so far I guess.
I'm very close to being back at the four figure mark from the $450 that I had left on the site and will be playing some higher stake games over the next few days.
I know through following me on Twitter (tagpoker) that some of you have railed some pretty weird games and I hope you're enjoying them. I clearly update twitter more often so to keep up to date, just follow me on there.

As cool as some old Jags are, I've always just had a thing for 911's, speesters and the Porsche Spyder (car that killed James Dean).
I've always liked them and yet for some reason, never bought one. So this seemed like a good chance to kill two birds with one stone

I don't think they have turbos, no. Are there many regs? I guess there are a few, nothing worth worrying about.
The biggest ball ache is waiting half an hour for a game I guess. I'm going to have to play a load of cash too to get a nice car at this rate lol

I've played there HUSNGs. I never saw hardly any regular player sitting them and that's from the 10s up. There were 1 or 2 who'd see me sitting and hit me for a buyin then piss off and they were not even that good just a nit. I used too sit 2 lobbies on there at a time always got a game pretty quick then.
Basically zero reg lines on there except maybe 1or2 at the 30/40s. Players didn't seem horribly bad but easy enough.

Fair, I haven't played any games really lower than the $30's to take any notice but I can't imagine the games would be that tough either.
|
icemanv6

Yea id of thought most of the really bad players would hit the cash tables too be honest. Opponents from my experience were no worse or better than that I faced on FTP .
Site traffic seems too be constantly growing also and the fact the lobbies are practically regless makes it an attractive place too play as long as you arent one for whining about software! Have too say they improved that a bit already.
Only downside for me was the cost of withdrawing too neteller then I had too pay a fee from there too my bank account which really put me off.
Broker have you even come across any regs at the 50s or above? I honestly only saw one person sitting a 100 game once in my time on there!

With a $50 roll I'd be playing much lower stakes than NL25 as you're only giving yourself 2 buy ins!
Somewhere between 20 - 30 buy ins would be a better fit so something like NL2 (1c/2c blinds) in my opinion.
Best of luck.

Those of you that have been railing my play or following Twitter know that I've been playing a mix of HSUNG's (bwteen $50-$100 games), HU cash NL50 and NL100, 6 max (NL100 & NL200) and full ring (NL200 only). I'm at just under $4000 so will be shot taking some NL400 games soon but mainly playing NL200 and $100/$200 HUSNG's.
I haven't been updating this anywhere near as much as I have been making Twitter posts of my play but here is a typical comedy moment from the mid stakes cash games and the reason that this is the site I enjoy playing on the most!!

Mid Day Grinding
Couple of memorable moments so far in todays grind session! One was comedy fun and the other made me want to punch myself in the face!!!
So I have been playing $100 HUSNG's and very short handed NL200 cash (4 handed).
All in all it hasn't been a bad day but I should certainly be up a few more hundred!!
Firstly the comedy hand thus far:
Ok the notes and stats I had on this guy were that he c bet 92% and fired lots of turns. He's also quite prone to over value top pair/ no kicker type hands.
I saw him check a lot of hands back on the river, both bluffs and medium value hands.
So this short my hand is super strong and I think check calling twice just allowed me to get max value from his bluffing range but then I want to build the pot, charge draws, and give him a chance to get stuck in a big pot if he does have some kind of hand.

$6000 (ish) and my first Boxster in sight!!!
Well this week has been by far the best week I've had in poker for a while. I've been playing a whole mix of games and many of you have been railing me in both HUSNG's and cash games.
I'm playing mostly $100 and $200 HUSNG's and NL200 and NL400 cash games. I've only been playing a few tables but playing them for long hours and this is working out really well for me.
I single table the HUSNG's whilst generally having two good cash games going on in the background and this is the perfect amount for me to focus on.
Porsche I can afford
Having looked through the autotrader online I have managed to find my first Porsche Boxster for the money I have (How cheap are they now??)

Small update:
Many of you have been following my play through Twitter and a good bunch have been railing my games. I've had some crazy ups and downs this week but all in all it's going well.
My roll is up to $7723 and I have decided to withdraw any amount over $10,000. I don't think I'm comfortable leaving a huge roll on such a small site and games nearly never run higher than NL1000 anyway so no need to have a silly amount of cash on there.
Been playing NL200, NL400 cash and $100 & $200 HUSNG's mainly (although Alex has been hogging the $200 lobby for the most part and I'm not too fussed as action is almost dead there apart from Zedans antics).
I can't wait to be playing the 5/10 games regularly and that will be the highest stakes I have played 'full time' and should be exciting. Although some of Alex's sessions have made me nearly throw up there and the truth is that there are much more regs to battle it out with now.
So just to keep you all posted for those that haven't been following my daily Tweets.
If you want to stay up to date, hour by hour then feel free to follow me on Twitter.
Run good guys.

To Sum Up
There are a load more hands just like this but I just can't be bothered to wade through all the HH files to try and find them. Running bad is shit, it happens to all of us but you have to just remember that all of this will come back in a huge upswing!!
Moral of the story?
Even though I may be losing right now, I'm happy to have players this god awful sat at my tables and long may it last!!!!
For those of you that haven't, just check the lobby out at Betonline Poker Room
Run good guys

Swinging is not as cool as some may think
I haven't updated this in a while and here's why.
For the last month I think I've been in the darkest downswing that I have ever known whilst playing poker.
It's been beyond brutal and I have been systematically hit by all forms of variance at once. Running into the top of ranges, coolers, being out drawn harder than Doc Hollywood's rivals, not connecting, just you name it and it's happened.
NL400 has chewed me up and spat me out but this has nothing to do with the players that I'm facing at all. I've been a constant donator to players with 90% VPIP's and then they in turn redistribute my bankroll to everyone else.
My roll has been smashed down to about $3300 now and I'm hitting up the $100 HUSNG's again. I can't even face sitting another 6 max game for a while. I have such high hopes for the Porsche challenge and should of probably dropped back down in stakes a long time ago.
If I was playing for a living then I would not of been playing NL400 in the first place with only 7k in my roll. I did drop back to NL200 at just under 5.5k and then as I said, just got destroyed down to where I'm at now.
When I say destroyed it's mainly situations like this:
BetOnline Poker Game #999966554: Hold'em No Limit ($1/2) - 2012/04/06 12:51:31 GMT Daylight Time

The guy was such a whale yet still managed to take 4 buyins off of me this morning
This is clearly an update/ mini rant. This time last month I was certain that I'd be playing NL1000 by now not $100 HUSNG's.
It's not always plain sailing in the poker game......... Ahhh poker, you fickle bitch

I bust out of the $2k event last night in 22nd place after 2 re buys and an add on. Shoved A9 in late position with 9bb left and ran into AQ in the blinds.
On Pokerstars I've bought action in all of these players and events:
Player Schedule
Giffordonian - Easter Sunday MTT's
drkamikaze1 - Drkamikaze1 weeklies
MattyDaCobra - MattyDaCobra's 7-8 April 2012
P-halt - Saturday MTT Action
Giffordonian - 2012 Poker Stars SCOOP-H Omaha 8 events.
Fingers crossed they run good too (well I say too, I just they run good full stop lol)

Never good man In the end I became thoroughly apathetic and found myself forever saying "There's only so much I can do!!!".
I was astonished at how you and Alex were both somehow managing to avoid it with only 3 losing days a month while I was living in poker's allegorical hell back then, enduring such BS from it all!
The chances of such brutal downswings when you've got a decent winrate are pretty slim, so this certainly raises some questions in my mind regarding BOL.

Ringer of what I was reporting !
I'm obv cautious of making any claims that it's rigged cos it's widely considered crazy talk.... but imo the site is incompetently ran at best, and frankly criminally fraudulent at worst. Consider yourself lucky that you're not relying on the results as an income!
Chin up though, with such specialist whales everywhere let's pray it won't be long before you start upswinging again The one great thing about this site is that the utter morons never actually seem to improve on their mistakes, so with the amount of reads you've developed they're surely gonna be paying major dividends sooner or later!

Yes mate, I was only talking to Alex yesterday saying that I get what you were saying now.
Alex is still banging out over $20,000 a month so I'm not sure that it's rigged but I've certainly had my my fair share of run bad.
70+% VPIP looks like the way to crush at the moment (judging by the guys that have stripped back my bankroll)
My plan is to drop down and regrind. Despite the clear faults with the site, the players are still the softest in the world by a country mile and I'd just feel dirty letting them keep hold of their cash.

just take it on the chin and think of it rationally. the calling station does get lucky some nights and thats just the way it is. you seem to just be bumping into them all. nothing anyone says wont be what you already know, so just build your roll up again and youll get that porsche

Hi there Dominic , reading this makes me feel better "SORRY" I didnt mean to be mean . it is just when i was loosing with these types of hands and i was doing it so often it made me question everything i did in poker, probably just because i didnt understand why it could happen so often. So seeing it happen to you and to loose over half your bankroll helps me realize that playing well is not a guarantee to make money while playing poker . it would be easy for anyone to go through one of these down swings when they first start playing ,and not understand why all the instruction and advice is not working . I cant say I was playing great but for quite some time i did seem to end up on the worst end of the stick.
I hope your bad run turns around for now and you are able to make some serious money to get the Porsche you deserve
Good Luck! Ron

There is a difference between hitting the nasty side of variance, and being a losing player.
You will smash it up again soon Dom, and you know it. I expect to see a pic of one of those 150k porches on your drive come christmas !
