2 tabling help

Hey guys.

I am just after the opinions of some of you successful guys on 2 tabling. While I acknowledge the need to, at least initially, implement learnt strategy and focusing on 1 tabling, I was wondering who plays 2 tables and if so, when you started.

The reason I ask is that, although I am committed to taking my time at hu sngs, equally my volume is pretty poor. Typically I play about 3-4 evenings a week for a few hours. I play reg speeds and average game time is 20 mins at the moment! So you maths guys can see the number of games I am getting in Wink

So what I am investigating are your experiences: what price will I pay if I start doubling my games?
Thanks

As noone else has responded I thought id have a go. I sometimes do this on the stake below that I feel really comfortable with. If I have 2 fish on both tables I find I'm ok. If I get a competent player on one table i usually try and finish the fish off on the other table and then one table the tough game. Thing is I play for fun and it starts feeling like hard work!

Are you sure you want to 2 table???

For some people it's very easy to 2 table for others (me ha ha) it can have a HUGE impact on your game as you can easily miss a lot of the finer details.

Some guys try and simplify the situation by saying well if you lose 25% of your win rate but play twice as many games then that's +EV (which on face value clearly is). However you have to think about lots of other things depending on how early you are into your HU career.

Firstly:

When starting out, playing more than one table WILL stunt your growth as a player in terms of mastering the game. I would rather play one table at higher stakes and play it as well as I can than two table my current stakes. I'm not saying go off and play under rolled but I am making a point in how important it is to get your game solid. Don't worry about running before you're walking.

If you're playing reg speeds and micro/ small stakes and you don't have say a 15% ROI one tabling then there is still much more room for improvement.

Second:

Two tables clearly impacts on win rates because of having less time and focus on your opponent and many newer players then fall back into a kind of auto pilot game (kinda relates to point one). Now as well as having a lower win rate you'll also find the variance becomes higher so then you have to factor in things like how well you deal with tilt?

If you're prone to being a tilt monkey when you lose a few buyins then this means your C game may start coming out more often than you want and that will impact further on your results leaving you at this stake even longer and again stunting the growth of not only your roll but you skills and desire to play (I know I get sick of poker when I tilt and can't even motivate myself to sit and play).

Ok have I put you off 2 tabling yet? No? You really still want to give it a go early in your career? Well if you're still reading then here is my advice if you're starting out AND still working on the fundamentals of your game.

Dipping your toe into the 2 tabling water

I will open a table and start playing (yes one table) to try and get a good feel for my opponents style. Once I feel that I have a good idea of his game and employed what I think is a good counter strategy then my 'auto pilot' (for want of a better term) is going to be ok. Then at this point I'll open my second game and then I can focus more on what the new guy is doing to get a handle on his game now that I've already done the hard work with the first guy.

I feel that too many people when they start multi tabling (and have weakish games) open two games at once and get a bit lost between two players and never really get a firm handle on what's going on and suffer for it.

Hope that helps. (From an avid one tabler)

Ok, ok, I'm put off! Smile

No, thanks for the answers. Very much appreciated. I'll stick with one tabling for the minute and work on my patience!

I guess even at small volume, I'll probably rise up the levels quicker if I am improving rather than being obsessed with volume.

Those no blind increase sit and go's can go for 1,5 hour sometimes, only to end up getting it in preflop QQ vs AK:). What a waste of time!

Yeah I think the blind levels last for 5 or six minutes. I'm
Not even sure what level you'd be at after 56 minutes. Must be like flipping heads or tails I guess or paper/scissor/stone. My highest is 150 maybe....I really admire the staying power!! What blind level would you be at?

Edit: life's too short for no blind increase!

PS has those scheduled HU knockout tourneys. I was playing the turbo version the other day, it is called turbo, but the levels are 2 min only. So, I was waiting for the next round to start when there was only one table left. I went to watch it. the blinds where like 100/200 already. Somehow it did not seem to finish:). I laughed myself to death, I never saw such amazing suckouts one after another. One guy came back to cheap lead after having like 100 chips few times... It went up to 250/500 level! Starting stack of 3 BB LOL. So, everything is possible.

No guys - these are reg speeds on Pokerstars, man.

We got to BB150. I guess my HEM was a little bit out then - it definitely says 56 mins, but at 6 min blind levels, it was definitely post 45 mins, which is a little rediculous for a $1 game.

Where does everyone else play their reg speed games? As I mentioned earlier, my average game time is 20 mins so I am hoping this means I am making life tough for everyone I play (which is good I guess!).

To be fair I was down to 500 chips early, scrapped back and did have him down to 300 chips about 3 times and he came back, so it was probably more epic than most games.

I should add that the only reason I am mentioning all this is because I am trying to do my $37.50-500 challenge and at this rate, I'll be retiring soon!

I play them. My HEM showes an average duation of 12.5 mins. I suppose, the game flow of those stakes are just too passive. Otherwise they will finish faster. Try betting more when you have TP+Smile. I am not saying, that the game should finish in 12 min. In fact I often have games that last 20min+, but the average figure is still around 12min, since some games really finish.. the first hand:)Smile

Thats a fair point I hadnt considered really. I guess it is not outrageous to assume a hell of a lot of fish dump money on a site and start at the 5s or whatever. It is not unreasonable to assume there are several players playing for $1 that are concentrating more, in a funny way.

As I said in a previous post I think, I havent actually found the players to be that bad at the 1s. I mean expoitable sure, but most arent just dumping off all their chips at the first chance.

Before joining this site and getting coaching, I dabbled in the 15 turbos and did ok, and you usually get a fair amount of people thinking they are phil ivey and trying to blow you out of every pot, so they are easier (and quicker) to catch...
