Nothing much to report in terms of a shifting BR, but still have two lessons with Broker to go.

But still in awe at the $1 hu sng I just played that lasted 47 minutes. Gotta be some sort of record at that level surely??!

Weird thing is, I didn't think my opp even played that badly. I mean, he was a tight pass so easy to exploit but I lost about 5 all ins. At least I won it eventually.

I assumed all $1 players would simply hand you the game. I may be some time...

Hey gang, hope you are well. Time for an update I guess! I have done 3 of Broker’s lessons, so still have the fourth to come. Things are going pretty well. Up to about $50 now – graph will follow. Need to work on my patience though – I dabbled in the turbos for a while and although I take on board several peoples opinions on reg speeds not firing off a lot at the $50s and above, I think I am still going to avoid turbos for the time being. I don’t ‘do’ variance that well, so I guess I should avoid anything which puts this challenge at risk.

After severely wobbling and getting frustrated at my inability to soar through the levels, I definitely needed to take a step back and remind myself of my volume and what I can realistically get out of poker at this point. Joining Tag was pretty much my last effort at rebuilding confidence and BR.

I thought I would lay down some (meagre) plans with quite specific volume targets, so I should always be aware of how long something like this could take – and this did actually help for once. I ran at 18% roi at the 1s, but I trimmed down my expected win rates and games per hour to basically undercook my calculations so I have more of a worst-case scenario (forgetting, for now, the prospect of running unbelievably well or badly).

So, it goes something like this:

Commit to 10 hours per week, at 4 games an hour = 40 games per week.
Roughly:
Mon 16 (4 hours)
Tues nothing
Weds nothing
Thurs 6 (1.5 hours)
Fri 6 (1.5 hours)
Sat nothing
Sun 12 (3 hours)

Obviously I hope to do more, but this is the bottom-line of my goals. Working on a 12% roi means:

- A 12% roi at the 3s is about $0.45p/g. I need to make another $20 to move up to 7s, which should mean 44 games – a little over a week from when I start.

- If I work on the assumption that I can achieve 12% roi at the 7s, I should be earning $0.84 a game. I need to make $75 to get 10 buy-ins for the 15s, which translates at about 89 games, which in turns translates as taking just over two weeks.

- I then need to make $450 to get 20 buy-ins for the 30s. A 12% roi at the 15s is $1.80 a game, which translates as 250 games, which in turn means 6 weeks.

So, the earliest I can expect to be at the 30s is in 9 weeks. Now, I know this ignores variance, but what it gives me is a ball park date so that every time I feel like spinning up some turbos or upping stakes, I can remind myself of the long haul. When I get handed a brutal beat at the 3s next week, I can feel like I still have this achievable goal.

Nine weeks and 383 games from now-ish is about 2 October by the way.

I think every plan should have an exit strategy! So I’ll probably give myself and commit to double what I have here – ie if I am struggling after 800 games and it is near xmas I am either giving up or moving to another game, lol.
