New to the course and was wondering as a beginner should I be playing standard heads up games to begin with?

Are turbo's for when your able to think quicker due to knowing more and obviously so you can get more games in during a set time period.

Super turbo when you have mastered turbo's.

Am I thinking correctly here.

Thanks in advance guys for any help.

I would start off playing reg speeds while you're learning to play poker. As soon as you are crushing the games then you can think about speeding things up not before.

I think you can play Turbos from the off if you so wish, need to get your end game up to scratch, and playing with shorter effective stacks in general.

Super Turbos are for people who don't like money or their sanity imo.

the starting stacks (on stars!!!) are as follows:

reg:  75bbs (10/20, stack of 1500, 6 minute inc.)
turbo:  75bbs (10/20, stack of 1500, 3 minute inc.)
hyperturbo/superturbo: 25bbs (10/20, stack of 500, 2 minute inc.)

since brokerstar teaches a style where you fact-find early on, the style that's most conducive to that would be reg speed, given you have much more time with deep stacks to play around... then when you're happy you know what you're up against you can start implementing the appropriate style of play.

turbo also allows you to do this, but it's going to be much more costly unless you can somehow get all of this fact finding out of the way early on.  basically, you need to be confident in yourself and experienced enough to adapt quickly.  to play turbo you need to really really get used to swings.  i've had hundreds of games that follow this blueprint: i win 1/3rd of their stack in the first 2 or 3 levels, and  with effective stacks of 20bbs the guy 3bet shoves my raise and get's it in behind only to suck out and hit.  the very next hand i find a big pair or AK-AJ and i 3bet shove over donk's raise, donk thinks i'm tilted and calls with a live Kx or worse and hits.  game over. Smile

i'm a firm believer that the standard on the low-mid level stakes i've played on turbo is worse than reg. speed, that's basically why i play.  but the swings can be crushing.

i used to think that playing hyper turbo was -EV because there wasn't enough play early on to really allow for you to exploit an edge over your opponent.  as it turns out, that's not true, there are a ton of guys who play super/hyper turbo profitably and there's vids available at husng i think.  i think doing a run through hyper turbo after you're confident at the other levels could very much help your endgame.

but the route i would take would definitely be to work on reg speeds and your game in general, go through the forum and get as much info as possible and always question why you're doing what you're doing in any given situation.  when you're winning at reg speed, maybe give turbo a go and see if it's for you.  but for now, definitely stick to reg speeds.
